In 2019 in Agrigento, Sicily the Amethyst project was born from Antonio Drago and Salvatore Bertolino, who have been working together for several years.

The Italian duo's second release on circulate—and their first full length album—comes in the form ‘INSIDE OUR WLRD’: 12 tracks that range from inquisitive and ethereal to pulsating, peak-time techno.

In their own words: “INSIDE OUR WRLD was created with the scope of letting people inside our world through emotions or values that emerge listening to our album. Life is hard and sometimes we need to isolate ourselves in our own world… in order to think about how to be stronger.”

With each track associated with a number and letter, one may ask—why the short titles? For Amethysts, in their world only the essence exists and not the excess.

Wirelab Records proudly returns with their 28th release. 2022 marks a rebirth for the label and welcomes three new seasoned producers as label partners. Founder Colin Wright (aka CJW) is now joined by Tom Schippers, Barry Johnstone (aka Dark Kandy) and Mike Richardson (aka Mike Turing). 

All three new artists are already very seriously established producers with many releases on labels such as Oscuro Music, Keep On Techno, Clone 2.1, White Line Music and Sound Optix.
 
The obvious choice for the first release in this new era was a new four-track EP, with each artist adding a solo track introducing their style. This new EP is rooted in the realm of peak time/hypnotic techno and showcases the talent now on board. Watch this space for plenty more techno bombs to come in 2022.

Long-standing techno force @garybeck will return to Berlin’s Second State with a grooving and cerebral 4 track EP. A pillar of Scotland’s techno scene, Gary has appeared regularly at some of the globe’s most respected venues and festivals including Womb Tokyo, fabric, Output NYC and Awakenings, to name a few. 

Title track ‘Supervan’ opens with bouncing bass and rattling percussion. A chopped-up vocal is introduced and commands the track forward as it ascends, with the kick battling to harden the track over the grooving melody and anthemic keys. Next up is the spirited cut ‘Psycho Babble’. A resounding sample attempts to cry out over the jacking bass and kick combo, calling out in ecstasy at intervals of the track. A minimal hi-hat jumps throughout but retracts as the track increases tempo and gallops towards the end, where Beck incorporates breakbeat elements for the final leg. 

‘Sparks’ follows with rhythmic shakers and hi-hats juxtaposing each other under the monologue of two young punters. The conversation adds a narrative to the track as it intensifies along with a gritty buzzing element. The voices become distorted as the track builds to crescendo, with the sample and music working together in unison to unravel the story of the character’s night. The finale ‘Pink Castles’ is a pacy and hypnotic trip, conjuring up the energy of both a peak-time workout and high-tempo closer. Haunting vocals and icy synths swirl around the driving elements and atmospherics, engulfing the listener into the darkness of this finishing track.

Australian Kristin Velvet now calls Berlin home, heading up the Arms & Legs label alongside owners Daniel Steinberg and Nils Ohrmann.

Kristin has been involved in the music industry in a variety of roles, from running events and DJing in Tokyo, to managing the quality rock label Domino Records based in the UK, proving her pedigree and musical acumen. Her track productions have also garnered support from names such as Maya Jane Coles, Adam Beyer and Dave Clarke amongst others, which is some seal of approvals to project her forward.

Swedish doyen and H-Productions bossman Cari Lekebusch provides two remixes on this great EP to really push it to new heights. An artist that should need no introduction, Cari has released on imprints like Kombination Research, Mote-Evolver, Sleaze and fellow Swede stable Drumcode.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the second remix of “Friday the 12th” which jumps in with a funky, jackin’ beat. Keeping a low key and understated groove, this is a prime example of less is more. Of course with any Lekebusch jam of late, it packs a punch that will test any sound system while firmly aimed at the dance floor, confidently blending a warm-up vibe with peak time dexterity.
