PREMIERE: Bridge Guy - CLAV It Your Way [Berlin Bass Collective]

London-based producer Harry Wolfman is quickly racking up quality releases with his 'Portal Gun' EP as his latest offering landing on the prolific Toy Tonics imprint. 

Clearly a fan of Rick & Morty, Wolfman's 'Portal Gun' EP features tracks titled 'The Rickest Rick' and 'The Accord'. Here Mixmag premieres the latter, a soulful and funk-infused house ballad that shimmers with fluttering synth chords and a warm bass line.

It is with great pleasure that we bring you "Dance Ideas Volume 2", courtesy of Australian crew Beats of No Nation (@beatsofnonationradio). Initially kicking off as a radio show which was all about projecting class dance music to the masses, the franchise quickly expanded into a record label, which has since released five juicy EP's. Since launching this beautiful sonic creature in September 2015, BONN have hosted a ream of esteemed house personnel such as Mall Grab, Francis Inferno Orchestra, Fouk, Folamour and Seb Wildblood on their show. The Aussie lads (Dom Bird, Jad Lee and Sean Bate) have also received high praise from their radio show brothers and sisters in NTS, Xlr8r, Thump and Bradley Zero. With pats on the back from this grouping, it's pretty obvious they're doing plenty right!

This time round we've got ourselves a delectable little compilation which shines a light on works from Ibiza resident Corbi, Hackney's Lavan, Berlin's Jad & The and finally a spacey delight from West Australia's Olywok. Corbi's opener screams the setting sun. Combining clicking drumbeats, elevating strings and one very funked out guitar scale, this one's a lovely grind. Be sure to hang in there for that soothing vocal monologue to entwine you, 'it's all so quiet and beautiful with the whole city right out in front of my eyes'. Next up comes UK cat Lavan's The Right Thing (The Hardest Thing). What's most intriguing about this groovy slice is again the vocal sample chosen. At about the three minute mark a painter's voice enters the fray, discussing his method of attacking a canvas. Enveloping this artists words are soaring strings and languid bass notes, making up a clinic in relaxed house.

Our pick of the bunch and the premiere today is the third track, from the Germany-based Aussie lad, Jad & The (@jad-lee). Simplicity really can be oh so sweet. For just over seven minutes Jazz Hands You'll Never Understand carries us away with bongos and a spell-bounding piano loop. A jazzy cocktail of subtle sound that still encourages the boogie. Rounding out this crafty collection of dance thoughts comes Olywok's Maintain. Boarding that lo-fi train, Olywok works together a flurry of acid stabs, digitised bleeps and haunting synth notes into quite the meal. A record destined for the quintessential Bush Doof!

At Poetry in Motion we use to say that with our music we prefer to touch the heart of fews, rather than the ear of manies. Our new release from Dutch Cleanfield with a remix from Swedish Sune confirms the rule. 

The original track Pont Du Blanc is a sure floor-filler, with groovy drums and pumping bass and that virtuoso keyboard solo in the middle of the track..damn!

Sune's Sunset Remix instead is the perfect track to listen to while enjoying a sunset at the beach on the first days of summer. Melancholic, sexy, smooth, hooky. Pure class from Sweden, tack!

Super proud at PiM to have these two talented artist on board! Great job guys!

Get Down Edits - Love To Dub You Baby

Not that long ago, one had to introduce Llewellyn as Martin Enke’s House- and Disco-bound sideshow to his main-moniker Lake People. That’s kinda obsolete these days, as Llewellyn has been cranking out enough high quality material over the last months to be on everybody’s radar anyway. 

“San Junipero” is already his second proper EP release on Riotvan in less than one year, not counting compilation tracks and remixes. It is the successor to his “The Other Side Of You” EP, the actual “Other Side” so to say, if not his prime moment so far. 

It kicks off with the title track, a straight hitting beat, clap on four, a little roughed up and grainy in sound. But with the introduction of its main synth, it turns into a dancefloor-tied, but widely spaced out Disco jam. Llewellyn credits Riotvan’s own New World, and particularly his track “Mirage” as an inspiration for the synths on “San Junipero”, so cheers to New World and the inner circle synergy! What is totally his own though is the signature ability to blend smooth and thoughtful arranging with an obsession on sound narratives and still a good quota of club functionality.

An approach that easily extends to all his productions, see also “The Light Above You” – an arpeggio driven tune featuring yearning harmonies, piano-highlights and a compelling overall 80ies vibe. 

“Remote Scope” introduces itself on a broken beat and a circling synthbass that gradually comes forward to be one of the main attractions of this rather groove emphasizing track. But still, its percussive patterns repeatedly give way to almost ethereal pad-arrangements placing you right into an emotive rollercoaster.

After all those profound DiscoHouse-leanings, one might expect the ultimate Euro-Disco-finale when led “In The Realms Of Fancy”. But no Fancy-tribute in here, but a beatless affair rich on field recordings and filtered synths, rounding this batch up on a laid back, yet classy note.

“San Junipero” will be out May 4th on vinyl and digitally and be distributed by Muting The Noise. Artwork by Niklas Sagebiel.

As a regular on Co-Op's Selectors Assemble, Danvers (@ddanvers) has established himself as a new and original voice on the broken beat scene - Interludes is no exception. Mason kicks things off teaming dreamy Rhodes over a bruk beat before switching to an offbeat & irresistible synth groove. Similarly Aye Ata shows broken beat in a new light, with the pulsing chord that grows out of the beat suddenly turning the track around with a rhythmic twist.
1997 pushes a house touch, where a bouncing kick and booming sub are coupled with hazy Rhodes chords and dreamy spoken word samples. Frits Wentick & Warren Xlnce take on remix duties, the former an otherworldly and enchanting take on 1997, the latter a deeper house cut with a South London jazz tinge, courtesy of Joe Armon-Jones laying keys over the top.

Capturing the same eclectic spirit of the original, the stunning remix package propels the tracks onto the centre of the dance floor. 

The Human Spirit remix comes from one of the leading producers of the French scene, Folamour.  His deft remix; a more centred house track kicks in with the nimble bass line and an air of playfulness track that is sure to put an easy smile on your face.
