Fine are very pleased to present Tales And Reactions, the inaugural long player on the imprint by label co-owner Tilman. Alongside his partner Johannes Albert, the guys have put together an impressive string of releases so far on Fine, focussing on their own material. But this sees them moving into the extended format for the first time and with magnificent results. Tilman has a long track record of putting out deep, excellently produced house music, but on Tales And Reactions he really comes into his own. The album is all about mood and feel, and each track is set up with a rich mix of samples and loose drum grooves to create warm and hazy vibes. The focus is on deep and spacious house cuts, weaving lazy pianos and half heard vocals. There are, however, plenty of dancefloor moments on the LP, with the chunky rhythms and disco strings of “Broken Dreams” or the filtered funk of “Chasing Rainbows”. The result is an album that takes you on a journey through different shades of house music, from a superb producer.

Today’s premiere comes from the inaugural release on Cardiology, a new sub-label from Burnski and Jon Woodall’s Constant Sound imprint. Having proven his aptitude for quality sampling on his last EP for Roots for Bloom Records, young frenchman Yann Polewka steps up yet again with 4 club-ready cuts of disco-tinged house.

Our pick off the EP is the B2, “Night’s Over Vern”. Right off the bat, that mysterious harp and those crisp cowbells had us hooked, throw in a tight bassline here and some shuffling hi-hats there, and there’s the backbone of any good disco edit. But no good bit of disco is complete without a hefty dose of filtered strings, a low-pass breakdown and groovy vocals for that final drop, all of which Yann has generously provided us with. All in all, it’s safe to say that Yann has the recipe for a perfect disco edit figured out, and tracks like these are a reminder of why nobody can ever get enough of that sweet french touch.

Between us, I might have given this track a round or two on the dance floor already, and believe me it works. No need to take our word though, give this a spin and see if you can stop your head from bobbing. Cardiology 00 comes out on the 28th of January, grab it here.

This 5 tracks drive you amidst winterly feeling. Not saying cold, it is more something very cosy. 

Introducing on the organ-roller 'Niji No Hashikake' is delivered with tons of love and layers-growing-crazy by M.ono. Second named 'Jazz A Night', some carribean jazz bar piano inspiration and a large dose of evolution towards garageable beats from Le Hutin. Third is Carlo man hitting with a smooth groover well balanced between deepness and organic presence coated in charming vocals, 'starting tomorrow'. Forth comes lelù from outer-atlantic for a 90's beat alike, 'Pimp Talk' is just a fine exploration of house referring to hip-hop influences. Last comes Tom Jarmey with a very personnal softener, featuring MarBlu, where vocals and multiple key layers madly melt into each others.

Originally starting out in the late 90s, Paris-based 8 piece, Cotonete originally gained fame for renditions of tracks from their contemporaries, the likes of: Deodato, Lalo Schiffrin and Banda Black Rio. Replicating the heavy grooves, sweaty jazz-funk with a nod to the Brazilian warmth and beach breeze. Before bowing out of the game thinking the fun was over….

Fast forward to more recent times, having had their flame reignited by Melik Bencheikh, head honcho of Paris vinyl emporium, Heartbeat Vinyl. He encouraged the band to get back together and over the last two years the band released four EPs of original material - quickly becoming collectors items, and now gearing up for 2019 they are finally ready to present a full body of work, their album debut ‘Super Vilains’.

So along with Melik assuming the role of executive producer they had one goal in mind, to capture the passion and unity Cotonete had always accomplished in their live performances. Setting-up in One Two Pass It Studios Paris, they began to work. Each musician speaking confidently through their own instrument, also unifying at the right moments showcasing the shear force they poses as a unit. The material had been rehearsed meticulously, almost to the point of exhaustion before the record was eventually laid to tape.

This nine track offering confidently straddles everything the band are known for; jazz fusion, balearic disco and integral soul-funk grooves. Keeping those early influences close, but now with more mature characteristics from the likes of: Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen and other 70’s Blue Note O.Gs.
