Hot on the heels of one Liverpool producer making his debut on MOS (John Heckle) is another Merseyside producer, ASOK, also making his label debut. Born Stu Robinson, he is the man behind cultured and burgeoning house and techno label Scenery Records, has released on Deep Space Orchestra’s Use of Weapons and, though he has firm roots in d&b, has proven himself adept at crafting raw analogue jams that fuse house and techno together into compelling new forms.

Opening up his Poltergeist EP is ‘Project Poltergeist’, a fizzing brew of incessant hi hats and prominent acid lines that duck and dive between nicely roughshod claps. It’s misty and mystic and immediately feels at home on this label given its heritage. ‘Smash Dimensions’ is a little more stripped back, again placing lots of focus on a lively acid wiggle, but this time dealing in a more serene sense of mood that loosely chucks open and closed hi hats into a grainy arrangement that gentle jacks throughout.

On the flip, ‘Walker’ takes us on a cerebral voyage through raining melodic droplets, crushed percussion and lumpy drums before final track ‘Captain Blood’ pairs a dirty, gnarly bassline with crisp cowbell tinkles and more nicely frayed percussion. This is hugely textured house music with a sombre sense of soul that really manages to take you places.

Toy Tonics ITALOMANIA Vol. 2  is a compilation dedicated to NEW ITALIAN DISCO (Not Italo Disco.)  13 young contemporary Italian producers made new organic disco, indie dance, avant pop and house tracks with Italian vocals. 

Everything on this compilation has been produced in 2023. 
Fresh dance music by Italian indie electronic star M¥SS KETA together with DJ Severino (of Horse Meat Disco) and newcomers Sam Ruffillo, Fimiani, Magou, Tommiboy, Daniel Monaco, Giovanni d'Amico. And new music by artists Stump Valley (from Dekmantel), Munk (Gomma records), Rodion (Slow Motion Records) and DJ legend Lele Sacchi.
 The ITALOMANIA compilation was initiated by Toy Tonics boss Kapote. The idea is to show the status of Italian Disco of today. It’s like a „manifesto“!
Kapote invited the most relevant Italian producers to make new tracks with Italian vocals and show different styles of modern Italian disco, dance and house music with Italian vocals.

Famed for his reworks and edits, Jacques Renault brings a release off Swedish label Local Talk, run by close friends Mad Mats and Tooli.

Based in Brooklyn, Jacques is a globetrotting DJ who also runs the roving Let’s Play House party night and label. Along with regular releases on his own imprint, Jacques boasts music on other scene leading labels such as Endless Flight, DFA Records, Rekids, Permanent Vacation and Defected. His induction into Local Talk's family of artists may nearly break his already exhaustible release CV.

Local Talk is a Swedish label globally known as a trusted source of timeless House music with influences in jazz, funk and soul. Whether its jacking, raw or deep, each release is compiled with care and attention to detail. What binds them together is an honesty that doesn’t follow fashion, hype or gimmicks.

Reworking a big tune is never a simple task, especially if after 7 years the tune in question is still one of the highlights in
shows of one of the worlds most beloved live act performers, KiNK.
That’s only half of the story though, as the tune got a lot of love from so many DJ’s all over the globe.
However, for the 17th burek release, we wanted to do something really special and what could be better than giving new
life to a piece of music which literally gave life to our label. And we gathered some very interesting people for the job.
A1 KiNK - Leko (Kink’s Bass Shake Version) is a rework by none other thank KiNK himself. The original is a party
monster as it is, so Strahil opted for an alternative approach that sheds an interesting light on a familiar song. Huge
resonating bassline

A2. In 2013 KiNK had an successful E.P. with Rachel Row called Follow The Step which had a major impact on both of
their careers. Later while touring with Rachel she had an idea to put some vocals on top of the first Leko track, which
now turned into a completely different, slow track with the familiar piano melody.

B1 KiNK - Leko (Session Victim Remix) is a wonderfully subdued take on the original. It keeps all the main elements we
all know and love, and enriches them with a more percussive feel, well placed guitar licks and an overall easier mood. All
that said, don’t make a mistake with thinking this is something for the living room as this one’s made for those special
daytime/sunset/sunrise moments when a tune like this turns the situation into something everyone will take home with
them.
B2 KiNK - Leko (Original Version) is the tune, in all it’s glory and attitude. Full-fledged peak time house track which turns
every party into a steaming pit of bodies asking for more. Too hot to ignore.

Duff Disco - I Won't Forget

Freerange are happy to announce our first Argentinian artist to the label, the highly talented DJ and producer Manuel Sahagun.  Manuel has been putting out house music since the early 2000’s and has released tunes on Berlin’s Tooman, UK’s Drop, and Detroit’s Kolour as well as remixing Warren ‘Hanna’ Harris, Robert Owens and Patrick Chardronnet.  He brings a freshness and eclecticism to his productions that fits in perfectly with the Freerange ethos of forward-thinking house music loaded with warmth and a touch of soul. 

 

The ‘Awake EP’ is a superb four-tracker that draws on diverse influences to great effect, and is one of the most original, yet floor-friendly sounding collections of music we’ve heard for a while.  The title track is an epic, glittering bundle of arpeggios, electro toms and 70’s string stabs, all sitting perfectly on a sequenced Italo-esque bassline. Imagine combining all the parts of your favourite disco records and then giving them a cutting-edge contemporary flavour and you’ll have an idea of what this highly effective bubbling groove will do to your dance floor.   ‘On Point’ sees Manuel pile on layers of intricate rolling percussion, warm pads, electronic squiggles and distorted vocals for a highly distinctive take on the deep house template, one that’s both underground and simultaneously accessible.  ‘Awake’ features another superbly tight underground house groove and an insistent disco riff.  Part pristine 80’s pop and part French Touch, ‘Awake’ pays close attention to detail in the production and it comes with a killer arms-in-the-air phased breakdown to maintain the energy.  The EP finishes up with ‘Juno Ride’, a nostalgic yet contemporary collection of metallic synths, gentle synth chords and counter melodies, all riding a fat Moog b-line, with just a hint of the very best of 80s synth-pop. The pristine percussion and a seriously effective dance floor-targeted arrangement all add up to a highly usable DJ weapon.
