'I wrote this record thinking about a couple I met some time ago in New York. 
He's a tall distinctive afro american man in his mid forties very fond of his clean shiny vinyl shoes. He loves Soul Black Music and has a soft spot for women in general. 
His wife knows that but hopes one day he will have eyes just for her. 

She's not a spring chicken either and lives day by day waiting for something magic to happen while she poures average filtered coffee six days a week in the local cafe' where she works.
They are so different but there is one thing they have in common 'Their favourite record'. 
One evening walking back home Shirley was feeling a little sorry for herself not knowing where Leo had been for the last days. But all of a sudden she has the impression of hearing their song.. and then louder & louder and from the distance Leo appears driving an old blue cadillac that reminded her so much of the car he drove on their first date 20 years ago.

He stops, smiles and looks at Shirley with guilty eyes and tells her "I've got so many things to say to you". He opens the door for her and they drive home without saying one more word but just listening with a dreamy smile to their song "When I hear my record I know I'm Home".
They kiss and enter the front door and from that moment they lived the rest of their days like if they just jumped out of their favourite song.'

The Gulf Gate Project - Keep It Goin' (Mr. Zay Remix)

The Gulf Gate Project return on February 25, 2013 with their latest 2 track EP titled 'Believe What You Say.' After almost two years since the release of their 'Sound Chip' EP, The Gulf Gate Project show us what they've been up to all this time and the result is possibly their best work to date. The title track 'Believe What You Say' is a true breakbeat journey. The bassline, as always, keeps the dancefloor rolling, the transitions between segments are beautifully arranged, and the vocal samples help tie it all together into a true sonic experience. The middle section of the track features a triplet march with huge bounce that brings the beginning and end together and rounds out the journey. There's so much packed into this one track that a two minute clip doesn't even do it justice. You really need to experience the entire piece from start to finish. Big bass, beautiful synths, amazing effects... it's all there in 'Believe What You Say."

The second track on the EP is 'Sally's Revenge,' a true party breaks jam through and through. 'Sally's Revenge' features a familiar African-American folk song sample that will hook the dancefloor in right from the first breakdown. The Gulf Gate Project crushes it with their signature dirty b-lines and even manage to pull off a harmonica solo in the middle breakdown to up the funk ante even higher. This track is fun, funky, and well produced and has already been a staple in many DJs' record bags for a few months now.

Here's an official remix I made for the German Tech-House producer Stimming. It's coming out on a charity compilation by Diynamic Music which includes remixes by Cassius, Kraak & Smaak, Hot Chip, Digitalism, Gui Boratto and many more. Had a lot of fun remixing this track as I was a huge fan of the original ever since it got out like 5 years ago. I'd describe my remix as kind of a Funky Tech-House vibe with a touch of Nu Disco. Hope you guys like it. Special thanks to F.A.Q & Eric Mendelson for slaying their guitars on this one.

Just back in from 'Utopia',

their last release, which came out on Roska's Kicks and Snares label this summer, and from 'Tapa', which was released on Enchufada a bit earlier this year, here's: Slap In The Bass. 

Our favorite Hungarians return home to No Brainer Records with 'Indian Legends'. A true - I hate the word, but what would you call this then? - banger. When you listen to a tune you very often ask yourself: "What does the artist want to tell us?" With this one it's pretty obvious: Tune + Club = Fire

For those of you who follow our little label, you know that our very own PLEA$URE live in their very own musical world. No wonder they create their very own 'Indian Legends' from scratch. Need I say more?

Yes. I do. Cause with 'Chant' there's a great second original track on this EP. It's Slap In The Bass at their best: percussive beatbox overdrive. This one was begging for remixes.

And we listened. That's why we asked Aero Manyelo (Sound Pellegrino) who turns it into something you can only try to classify as South African big room. And I mean that as a compliment. This remix can be played by the DJs who already sold their soul as well as by all those trying hard to day by day.

Last remix  on the EP comes from Malente. I have no idea who that is nor who asked this guy for a remix. I think it's crap.

Malente - 'Rip It Up - 10 Year Anniversary Edition'

Some of you might know Malente from recent releases like 'Crusaders' (2012) on Defected 'I Like It' (2009) on Fool's Gold, or 'Gipsy Kings' or 'Habibi' (2010) on Exploited, some as head of his label No Brainer Records. But there was a Malente before this Malente and funny thing is: Most of you - those who are old enough - know that Malente too. You just don't know you do.

To refresh your memory we remaster and overhaul Malente's first albums which are not available digitally yet. Starting with 'The Spirit Of Malente' and 'No Risk No Funk' last year we now bring you his third album 'Rip It Up' originally put out  2005. Where the original album holds 13 tracks, the completely remastered 10 Year Anniversary Edition features 26. 

For this release we took the 'Rip It Up' idea as a cross between album and remix album a bit further. The anniversary edition combines the original tracks of that album like 'Dancefloor Whore' and 'What You Got' with not only the best reworks from the original 2005 album, but also lots of brand new remixes. This links the organic P-Funk Breakbeat of 'old Malente' seamlessly with the House and Electro of 'new Malente'.

We not only dug thru the archives for some yet unreleased remixes from back then, but also remodeled the tracklist to integrate the new remixes properly and keep the flow of the album. We made this shine for 2013 so you can fully experience 'Rip it Up'. 

A must have for fans? Yes. But even if you never heard of Malente this is something for you.
