Guitar and bass are played on a Squier Vintage Modified VI which is a new remake of the classical Fender VI. The Fender VI is a short scale bass with 6 strings tuned like a guitar, just an octave lower. Due to the strings configuration the Fender VI can do both guitar and bass duties. It have been used by Cream, The Cure and the Beatles among others.

An instrumental about the midsummer nights north to the polar circle.
This song is not totally new and was released 2-3 years ago under an other name. But I've felt it could benefit of fresh remixing/ mastering. Since the original didn't contain a real guitar on it I've asked the Prog rock/ Jazz/ fusion maestro - Gordon Midgley if he wants to add guitars on tune. 
The (new) name of the track is inspired by Gordon' s lovely guitar work, which gave me the feeling of how ideal summer nights are, here north to the polar circle!

Midsummer Nights - Featuring Gordon Midgley

A journey through mostly keys of A. The journey starts at Mellowsville and ends in Proggyville. 
The Sound Hound is kept busy as guitar gear exchanges in between the various sections: 
Hagstrom HJ600 w. 012 flats, finger style
Tele * Red Llama - fingerstyle
LP * Blackstar - fingerstyle "mysterious"
Tele * Red Llama - plectrum {revisited some of the ideas from the Hagstrom section but with gain & bending }
LP * Blackstar - finger tapping - classical influence to accompany the synth arpeggios
LP * Blackstar - plectrum w. pick-tapping finale

On the bass side the sound man had an easier job as the bass used is a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz. Starting on a single amp solution - Ampeg SCR DI which later changes to dual amping solution where Ampeg SCR DI is used as amp one while EBS Multicomp and Tech21 Sansamp Oxford are exchanging as the 2nd amp role. Mellowsville bass is finger style, Proggyville is pick (Herco Flex75) bass.

The song started as a practice on finger style bass playing and progressed thereafter. The inspiration for playing finger style came from music I've listened to recently.
In the recent months I've listened to two particular bass players where both master finger style and pick style. The bass players are Jonas Reingold of Karmakanic, The Flower Kings, The Fringe, Agents Of Mercy, Kaipa, The Tangent. He is in my eyes the finest bass player in the prog rock scene. His playing covers everything in between Jaco and Chris Squire. The other bass player is Gordon Midgley of Napier's Bones and Bowing Tide. Like Jonas Reingold his bass playing is inspired by several big names but from different backgrounds and different playing style - Jack Bruce, Percy Jones, Jaco, Geddy Lee & Pete Trewaves. Gordon finger style bass technique is quite unique and extremely effective. He tends to alternate between pick style (with or without pick) and pure finger style on the fly, just take a careful listen to Napier's Bones bass playing to discover the depths of the his bass playing. The fact that most people tend to focus on the guitars (and he is a very skilled guitar player)and he synths tend to "hide" his great bass playing.

The song itself is somewhat inspired by Karmakanic, a prog rock band which likes to blend jazzy elements and prog rock.

A Journey To A --  featuring Gordon Midgley

A proggy instrumental featuring Gordon Midgley of Napier's Bones/ Bowling Tide/ SGF. 
Now, I had the honour of having Gordon to sing or play guitar (or both). But we have in previous occasions talked about the possibility of doing a bass duet, somewhat inspired by Wal To Wal by Brand X. 
On this song Gordon takes the lead role on his fretless Jazz bass while I play my fretted Jazz bass. Gordon added a funky rhythm guitar on his Strat while I've added a 12 string rhythm section. The 12 string is emulated, played on an iPad! 
There are also some electric guitar lines earlier in the song, these was played by my on a Squier VI, which is really a short scale 6 string bass tunes E to E. 
There are some other stuff going on here, an hammond, an iSEM (iPad emulated SEM) and some other synths, all played on the iPad
The song was mixed an mastered as usual on my iPad using Auria Pro DAW.
