As we all know, the official 2021 Burn didn't happen.  Nor did I head out to the Rogue Burn.  But musically I was ready!  And I still had to put together what would have been the kind of set I would have played if I stepped into the O Pod (Opulent Temple's DJ booth) on a Wednesday night ready to rock a crowd and play with flame throwers. 

So accept this substitute for the dance floor experience this set tried to capture, with a range of house to take the playa tinged journey.  Hope you enjoy.

We celebrated in an intimate ballroom with an intentional group of humans. This set was recorded on the main dance floor 1:30am - 3:00am. I hope you enjoy dancing to it as much as I did!

Back in October, this mix was recorded LIVE @ FnF 2018 (22nd Annual 'Friends n Family' Campout). 100% TECH HOUSE. Loads of dark moodiness gritty with luscious texture - just a wink of bounce and funk. Artsy, yet accessible. Danceable, yet car appropriate. First night at a new beautiful woodsy campout venue, private land just outside Yosemite - virgin to electronic music rave culture. It felt like the start of Autumn, the turning of a new leaf - with actual golden yellow brown leaves sporadically drifting down around the DJ booth at night. Take a sonic journey with DV down the rabbit hole of tech house!

Talk about heart and soul. Following a lengthy selection process - involving over 80 DJ's submitting mixes, a music selection panel vote, AND a larger community vote - is always a huge honor to be invited to perform as a DJ for FnF, one of the pioneering dance music tribes in Northern California. Very humbling. This annual gathering is very special in the hearts of so many, and I feel so lucky to be a part of this longstanding community of rave professionals, who pour nothing but love. All the gratitude!

(As a special treat to me, the old school techno DJ Amber - who first taught me how to DJ when I first searched for lessons on craigslist in 2004 - was on the dance floor during my set which helped raise the bar just a bit higher for me during the performance!)

Dulce Vita - Just SHAKE It - Live @ FnF 2018 (Friends-n-Family 22nd Annual Campout)

“So, eleven hundred men went into the water. 316 men come out, the sharks took the rest. Saturday, FnF poolside 12:45, 2019. Anyway, we delivered the bomb.” -Quint from Jaws. The sharks swam vigorously, the ravers ignored them, apparently good vibes repel sharks. Dao and PWNY sent their sexy shark house through human and marine cartilage alike. UV rays pounded through the ozone on FnF pool inhabitants and after a taxing Friday night many looked to the soundwaves for healing and invigoration. The music funked and jived through the mid 120 bpms. Floaties spontaneously combusted and the beat carried the party through the + 90° hotness. Some shopped at the clothing swap, some enjoyed massages, everyone heard the duo hold the afternoon. Dao and PWNY have toured the lower 48 for 10 years now, mostly via rideshare and short bus. Their head and booty bobbing beats have become an FnF staple. Whether opening, closing, in the day or at night, everyone eats their green egg breaks and hambone house. They brought the dome over the pool down with their finishing track “baby shark dance.” Hundreds of closeted opears, nannies and dad joke offenders came out of the woodwork with that family friendly heater. As always Dao and PWNY meant business Saturday, as Quint says best “I’m not talkin’ about pleasure boatin’ or daily sailin’, I’m talkin’ about workin’ for a livin’, I’m talking about sharkin’!” ... Raver Tip #80: Apparently good vibes repel sharks.

Enter Dulce Vita (pronounced dol-sie/vee-tah). Nationally requested, dance floor approved! In direct response to specific performances at Burning Man, she has been invited to rock stages in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Seattle, Portland, Boise, San Diego.  As a DJ performer in San Francisco, how does DV stand out? True individuality happens here as a result of a musical risk. Using the cross fader as her primary canvas with a signature brand of aggressive intent, she performs a sound all her own - an energetic soundscape peppered with loads of texture, chunk, and curious desires you never knew you had across breakbeats, bass house, tech house,  melodic techno, electro, organic house, world beats, downtempo, and bass music.  Emotion evoking dance music is quintessential DV.

Dulce considers any single performance a personal success if she can make a deeply positive impact on at least one person's experience. Since her debut performance at Google headquarters in 2004, you might have already experienced her audio collage of eclectic tracks at underground warehouse venues or major nightclubs such as The Midway, Public Works, The Great Northern, Monarch, Temple.  In the past, Dulce was named WINNER of SF Weekly: City of Spin 2009 (Annual DJ Competition) and her performance at Burning Man earned a prestigious mention in international publication 'DJ Mag' within the 2008 issue featuring Top 100.

Over the years, Dulce has held down numerous DJ residencies based in San Francisco. In 2006, she was proud to be selected as the first female to be affiliated with 'OPULENT TEMPLE' (the infamous large-scale sound camp at Burning Man featuring world class DJs on over 300,000 watts). In 2009, she was invited to wobble out with 'CALIFORNIA DUBSTEP REPUBLIC', a collective of performers who provided the first ever Dubstep float in San Francisco's equivalent of a large scale EDM festival like Love Parade. That year also debuted her solo event production alias: 'DVANT GARDE'. DV created a new breed of event (known as 'Womper Womb') showcasing dubstep, glitch, and breaks with all female DJ talent from Burning Man. Dulce Vita booked nearly 100 performances as a DJ in 2009.  

In 2010, she gained a new monthly residency with 'BELOW ZERO', featuring downtempo, chillout, trip-hop, and IDM.  'UNDERGROUND NOMADS' was introduced in 2013, a weekly show featuring global bass and world step in combination with belly dance performance. Dulce spent many years feeling at home within the Northern California campout and  invitational festival circuit involving Burning Man communities. In 2020, Dulce became officially affiliated with 'STRATEGIK SF'.  Burning Man community based groups she has performed with over the years also include: DUCK POND, ROOT SOCIETY, DISTRIKT, HOOKADOME, SPACE COWBOYS, DUSTY RHINO, BRASS TAX, FLAMING LOTUS GIRLS, SLUT GARDEN, DISORIENT, DANCETRONAUTS, SACRED SPACES, BASS CAMP, NEXUS, OSIRIS, BMIR.  

Dulce has also provided A&R representation in past at Winter Music Conference in Miami for two Oakland based labels, Mizumo Music (tech, filtered disco, and electro house) and Funky Cactus Recordings (big beat and nu skool breaks).. Her actual birth name is Dulce Vita.
