22-year-old, Berlin-based Benjamin Led (aka BEAN) began making music aged 15 using a cracked copy of Ableton he found on his brother's laptop. With influences spanning from Arca to Rachmaninow, the artist has taken to reshaping classical music techniques into electronic music - with some wildly impressive results. His second release on the LA-based label TAR, his 'PSYCHO' EP smashes together frenzied elements of ambient and trance in a wholly transcendental way - with more than a few hints of Evian Christ, doon kanda, and the aforementioned auteur, Arca. Having recently released his debut EP, The Skin Falls Off The Body, last year on Dream Catalogue, Lighght returns with his debut album, Gore-Tex In The Club, Balenciaga Amongst The Shrubs, on his own imprint, Shadow Gazing. 

It’s a strange work about exploring self-indulgence as a model for self-healing, coming to terms with the arbitrary nature of pain and beginning the healing process whilst in an already vulnerable state: one of panicked ecstasy, where you keep cruising upward as you feel the safety of solid grounding evaporate beneath your feet. 

While The Skin Falls Off The Body was a short controlled burst of industrial and noise, Gore-Tex In the Club, Balenciaga Amongst The Shrubs is a sprawling mass. Laying out the narrative in the spoken word chamber piece, ‘The Temple (Libretto),’ the story returns to us again and again throughout the album in a fragmented mass, painted in bright psychedelic strokes from broken techno, weightless trance and mutated Irish Traditional music.

The self-titled “Cyberghetto” inflicts more than just a handful of artists painting by numbers, but a well-rounded group of individuals asserting their experimental crafts.

Hyperboloid are synonymous with picking out the cream of the Grime/Cyber Club/Bass/Juke & Beat scene and this release see’s some new faces that we’re thrilled to discover. Don’t be fooled the usual suspects are still there dropping what they do best.

From star to finish they create a yo-yo effect with their track placement, giving each track a chance to hit you hard with it’s mood and deliberate attempt to make you feel something.

Overall the album shows that Hyperboloid are still one of the most vibrant and forth thinking underground camps on the scene and that you should be expecting a fruitful onslaught of new beats to come in 2016.
