I used to be a member of an analogue synthesizer group called Weirdgear, from 1998 until 2009.

I put together this track a few years after I left the band. My version originates from an incomplete idea that Weirdgear had worked on. The lead singer, Lee Maher, sung the phrase "Man On The Moon - going to take you higher" through a MicroKorg vocoder. The rest of us jammed around (the rest of us being myself on Siel string synth, Paul Barlow playing bass on Jen SX1000 and Paul Wolfe on the Roland TR707 drum machine and effects). There's footage of us performing a rough version on YouTube somewhere - the one and only time we tried it out live!

I always wondered how this version would have sounded if Weirdgear had performed it.

Instruments used on my version are Casio CZ-101 (echo bassline), Eminent Solina string machine, Synthtone Jen SX1000 (space wind), Tenada 6-string acoustic guitar.

Computer soft synth plugins include Drumazon (Roland TR909 emulator), Minimogue (gated synth sound), Korg Poly 6 (synth pad, synth celeste), Tapetronic (Melotron strings), vocoder (Man On The Moon phrase), DoubleDelay (vocals).
