The atmosphere, like a stage, constantly plays out a play of light. The sun, hidden behind the clouds, awaits the rotation of the ice crystals.

When the angle tilts, a bright shadow appears on the left, a cold substitute on the right. Three suns hover at the edge of the sky, a composite arc of light standing in a place that is completely out of reach. Atmospheric lenses distort and refract countless rays, splitting the single star into three dazzling sundogs.

Three times the corona rings accelerate on the surface of the fireball, three times the heat surges through the illusion. If sound could not survive in a vacuum, perhaps a threefold deep, passionate roar could exist in the depths of the universe. But when the ice crystal tilts again, the arc of light disappears, as if nothing had happened.

Cirrus clouds drift, ice ridges turn, and the real sun's rays illuminate a counterfeit of light. The ever-changing light image is but a fleeting moment of celestial splendor, and this story is a glimpse of its magnificence. Arrangement: Steve Alexe
