Hæster is a new Belgian post-metal band composed of ex-members from e.g. Aborted and Death Before Disco. Their debut album, All Anchors No Sails, will be released October 12th on dunk!records and features promising guest appearances by Brennt Vanneste (Steak Number Eight), Stefanie Mannaerts (Brutus) and Sven De Caluwé (Aborted).

"Signed by dunk!records off of the strength of a single live performance, Ghent’s Haester is revelatory when one considers their neophyte status. Upon listening through their debut record All Anchors No Sails, there is nothing about this band that suggests that this is their debut material. Seething with sheer power and boasting a supremely confident sound, Haester invites comparisons to metal behemoths such as Cult of Luna and Mastodon. But it doesn’t take much further examination to see their own unique elements bleeding out to the surface to set them apart; bursts of organs and female vocals, disquieting vocals samples, guitar leads emerging to cut through the densely weighted riffs, swaths of startlingly beautiful melody – all of these things combine to add surprisingly rich dimensions to All Anchors No Sails that help it differentiate and rise above the relentless one-dimensional assault that can sometimes characterize lesser post-metal artists.
	However, in case you missed the suggestiveness of the album’s title, this is no light-hearted soiree. All Anchors No Sails is largely characterized by its thundering guitar riffs, which are propelled by precision percussion that makes all the difference. It unfolds with sometimes mathematical calculation, but it never ceases to be engaging. The gripping groove of “Ironmongers”’ opening perfectly complements the more traditionally punishing savagery of its verse sections, though the drums are always ready with a compelling rhythm when the moment suits it, constantly pushing the track forward into new and exciting territories. The conceptually-linked “Ghost in Machines” and “Ghost In Us” reveal Haester as a band capable of thoughtfully crafting their ideas without ever over-selling the drama in ways that many artists do when exploring progressive composition. This is the very first live album recorded at dunk!festival. Pelican performed a one hour set at #dnk16 and besides live streaming the whole thing, we also recorded (multitrack) the entire set (credits to Jannes Van Rossom). Dallas Thomas from Pelican mixed the audio. The album was mastered by Collin Jordan (Boiler Room, Chicago) before being pressed on high quality, 180g, colored vinyl in a beautiful gatefold cover, designed by Error! Design, printed on inside out upgraded cardboard. Everything released on dunk!records of course.

( 0 4 ) is the first full-length by [ B O L T ] as a trio. In comparison to their earlier output the sound is more propulsive and structured. Emerging out of oppressive silence and ending up in ecstatic noise and drone, [ B O L T ] create waving sounds and crushing riffs. The trio presents a set in between the genres of drone, doom and metal.

The album was written and recorded in the end of 2016. Mastering was done by Tobias Stieler (Kokomo).

Working from the template of Doom and Sludge, Belgium’s Lethvm infinitely increases the brutality with which they press their considerable weight upon the ears of listeners by introducing a raw immediacy that does not typically present itself within those genres. As their moniker suggests, Lethvm seeks to embrace the destructive possibilities of music, continually building soundscapes only to burn them down in increasingly spectacular fashion. Listeners will find traces of Powerviolence within This Fall Shall Cease’s seven tracks, an important distinction which informs the extremity of the album’s varying emotional peaks. 

Whether they are exploring rage, sadness, the darkness or even occasional glimpses of beauty, Lethvm does so with a snarling intensity which cloaks them with an aesthetic of danger that we are rarely lucky enough to observe. Looking into a moment from the penultimate track “An Encounter With The Sun,” the performance toward the end of the song seems to reveal a willingness, even a desire on the band’s behalf to demolish their respective instruments; to erode their vessels for the opportunity to crush listeners and raze their own creation in the interest of pushing an emotional envelope that is as breathtaking as it is volatile. This instance could indeed be characterized as “subdued” in comparison to other spots throughout the album, so be prepared to listen with clenched teeth and fists.

A savage rhythm section and tortured screams collide with soaring riffs in a way that is brilliantly jarring, forcing the listener to grapple often with whether they should stomp the ground beneath them in anguish or raise their heads and bellow victoriously toward the heavens. The ability to do both over the course of individual compositions is what gives This Fall Shall Cease an uncommonly precious value.

In 2016, Raleigh, North Carolina’s Travis Brooks emerged with SPEAK, the debut album of his post-rock project Old Solar. It proved to be one of the year’s most pleasant and exciting surprises, escaping the trappings that can sometimes befall solo artists to bring listeners a fully-formed vision that presented a mastery of attractive ambience, dramatic swells and energetic, often explosive riffing.
