Recorded live at The Common on December 22, 2022. This set nearly didn't happen at all. My first flight was cancelled due to weather and only thanks to some helpful folks on a different airline did I make it on time. It ended up being one of my favourite sets of the year. Thanks to all the friends who came out and to my Night Vision family and the Common for hosting! 

The mix includes 3 brand new tracks and I've left in some of the crowd recording. There are some pretty funny moments that were captured. Thanks to everyone who supported me in 2022. I appreciate you!

Nick Garcia - Delamar: Nick Garcia’s Delamar is a jazzy house tune with a tinge of lo-fi. Spacious guitar and dancing synth riffs create an atmospheric vibe as smooth vocals encourage you to ‘get up and get down.’ The track will find a comfortable home in the crates of DJs who need something downtempo and sultry for early hours.

Dunmore Park - Uber: Night Vision co-founder Dunmore Park follows up ace releases on Supremus and Grrreat Records with Uber, a funky, chopped-up number that showcases his talent at creating music that sounds like nothing else. The track’s driving beat and building groove make this an excellent tool for anyone who plays a bit outside the box.

Adam Johan & Trevor Oslo - House 2 House: In signature fashion, Adam Johan and Trevor Oslo take things up a notch with House 2 House. Their contribution is uniquely rooted in the sounds of classic house, making use of a only a few main sonic elements and proving that less really is more. The guys’ knocking drum groove and bright, agile synth riffs could be at home in late 80’s Chicago as they are in this compilation.
David Luca & Dailey - Seven Sirens: In their first release together since 2016’s Better Strangers, David Luca & Dailey keep the retro vibe flowing with Seven Sirens, a peak-time track that will tear up dance floors with its captivating arpeggios and vocals. The track’s driving bass and nostalgic synth sounds bring to mind Italo-disco and 80’s synth pop, though beautifully repositioned as a modern, polished DJ weapon.

Honeydripper - Dat Love: It's a major feat to sample Miss Lauryn Hill, but Edmonton native Honeydripper pulls it off flawlessly. A recording of the maven speaking to high school students about love is underscored by a silky-smooth downtempo beat that makes it a feel-good groover and the perfect denouement of this comp.

I asked her to describe her mix and here’s what she had to say: “Ok. To me the mix was a journey through the jungle at night, after drinking plant medicine. Coming across all the random medicine men, aliens, dancers, psychedelic toads ect. Sometimes scary.”

Naturalist Bio
Naturalist is made up of two music lovin' brothers, Sam Moffat and Caleb Brown from Fernie BC.

Don't let their last names confuse you, these brothers are known for bringing good vibes and their fun and energetic stage presence will make you want to join the fun just as much as their music does. They each bringing a unique style to the turntables and their live sets are made up of various styles of feel good house and disco bangers that come together to create a sound they call ‘Space Disco.’

2019 has been their breakthrough year and after winning the Kootenay Music Awards ‘Artist Of The Year’ they shared their sound to the largest crowd they have ever played for at The Living Room Stage at Shambhala.

The future looks bright for these boys, and they are ready to run with it.

Mulatu Astake is a Ethiopian musisican who is hailed as one of the founders of the ethno-jazz movement for his work combining Jazz, Latin, and traditional Ethiopian music.  The original version has an incredible sultry vibe to it that I couldn't get out of my head so I created a remix to incorporate into my sets.

Without a doubt, this was one of the most challenging sets for us to date. It was particularly difficult to compose because we could not find the usual direction or flow that we normally fall into. The expression of a set is the reflection of its bearer and when we try to sit and reflect on the mysteries and madness of this year, we are flooded with many different feelings and emotions. Digging deep into our introspective thoughts - understanding and appreciating what there is to be grateful for, reminiscing on what used to be and shaping what is yet to come - we decided that in a world where there are many things that still do not make sense, we should tell the story that captures the various moods and feels of our journey thus far, regardless of its nonsensical irregularities - or more simply put “nothing makes sense, so maybe this doesn’t have to make sense either”. This approach set our minds free to just have fun and play songs that we have loved during this time, showcasing a storyline that deeply resonates with us. This story, made for our friend Dunmore Park, captures our understanding of life’s circular cadence; from the excitement of a new beginning, to the regularity of something familiar, the inevitable ache of its passing and the eventual hope for something new once again. We send you all our love and cannot wait to reunite soon to share our bizarre stories from one of the most peculiar years yet.
