Fasme & Maelstrom  

Episode 130 is finally here and we brought two fascinating French acid heads together for a transcendental journey into the world of transistorised bass: 

Maelstrom, like his name suggests, is a force of disruption. Striving to challenge the sonic and intellectual status quo of dance music, working as a benevolent, anarchic force to upset ineffective systems and sounds.
Co-founder of label RAAR (‘punk for techno-heads / techno for punks’) and prolific in his output on labels ranging from the legendary Clone (under mystery alias) to modern electro-standards such as Private Persons, Mechatronica, CPU and Cultivated Electronics, Maelstrom’s output is as ferocious as it is diverse.
2017 saw the release of the Nantes-based producer’s debut LP, Her Empty Eyes, a dystopic journey through an imaginary piece of historical fiction. Frequent collaborations with RAAR co-founder Louisahhh result in genre-bending chaos, ranging from wall-of-sound techno poems to Atari Teenage Riot-esque aggro-anthems. 2021 finds Maelstrom preparing his latest onslaught of sound; his full- length solo LP Rhizome came out on the 12th of March, it is an entirely fresh body of work about invisible creative communities, sonic evidence of the fact that nothing is created in a vacuum.

Fasme, no other way to describe this man than a live performance phenomenon! His scenic energy has marked the French stages visited in recent years, where his style is constantly evolving between electro, acid, braindance and synth-wave being defined by subtle and melancholic melodies, supported by the unstoppable rhythm of this trained drummer.
Leave no one indifferent; this mantra is what brought this joyful and endearing artist to the attention of the live Electronic Feeling collective, 
then of Astropolis, Paco Tyson & Dehors Brut / Concrete before joining the Sarcus Festival as a resident and more recently the Chevry Agency. His productions are also from another level with recent releases "Hexagonal Club" ( Pont-Neuf Record ) & "Stretched World" ( Nocta Numerica ), with more on the way including releases on Feel My Bicep, Dream Tickets, CPU & Acid Avengers.

These two have made a blend of unreleased tracks and collaborations at the intersection of their respective aesthetics. So let their sonic spectra take over your cerebration and as always…

Currently operating probes from GER it is drawn to irregular rhythm, psychedelic texture and immersive atmosphere, trying to produce and display that sound to the public by transmitting it, inter alia, through the Mirror Zone.

Human Lessons #053 - Vector Trancer

We have been eagerly anticipating the release of this podcast for quite some time. London-based Faery is a friend of Above Below, and we were blown away by her set at The Beacon stage, which marked the closing of Above Below 2022. After a dry weekend, the rain poured, forging the perfect environment for the psychedelic techno on display; it was as if Faery herself summoned the downpour.

Once again demonstrating her capacity to hypnotize, Faery has recorded a soundtrack for swamp-dwellers and forest-inhabitants alike. A transfixing hour of contagious groove and otherworldly sounds.

@israel-vines is an esteemed DJ and producer with a career spanning nearly three decades. After spending his formative years in the musically fertile American Midwest during the mid-nineties, Vines settled in LA where his distinctive vision has continued to take shape. Channeling both the rebelliousness of early techno, punk & hip-hop and the sleek futurism of the modern electronic music soundscape, Vines' sound is uncompromising and sophisticated all at once. 

Appearances at key venues across the US and Europe, alongside releases on @tresorberlin and @ithqdetroit sub-label Eye Teeth have seen Vines further hone his adventurous, off-kilter and impeccably refined sensibilities.

Fluttering between 85-170BPM, Israel Vines' Patterns of Perception 109 mirrors the contrasts in his own singular sound. Low-slung grooves roll as vivid rhythms take hold. Sleek sound design shimmers amongst a field of warm, effervescent textures. Layer upon layer of percussion illuminating a roiling jungle of emotion and energy.

Doctrina Natura (@doctrinanatura) is a DJ Producer from Sevilla, Spain. This project was born at the end of 2017, with the need of experiment with introspective, organic, hypnotic music, a sound intimately linked to nature. Inspired by inspired by ethnic music and folklore, Doctrina Natura has released music on labels as Oslated, Deflection, Secuencias Temporales, Circular Limited, Agos and more.

Phanom immerses you in a realm that oscillates between the dream state and reality.  She shapes her DJ sets like a ride to your inner self, from darkness to light to forget yourself in ether.

Daniel Danieli is a Belgian DJ and producer based in Aaachen (Germany). Having released on a few labels throughout the years, it’s on his own platform, Whispering Signals, that he has created his most recent concept of music, a place for him to experiment and host like-minded artists. Mixing the analog and digital world is key for Dan. The idea is to continuously sample his own library, until the patterns are clear enough to be used as a flow or groove. Tracks are created without following a fixed template or idea, but using a computer as a trusted companion to express and modify improvised feelings and jams that were created with analog gear or digital software.
