Minor Notes moves into 2020 with a bang as they bring through more quality house music from the ever impressive roster of artists which Russia is providing at the minute. This time label boss Guydee presents Lowres which is a project of two old friends with completely different musical backgrounds. Until 2012, Fyodor Stepanenko (aka Nphonix) spent many years productively engaged in drum&bass music, after which he switched to various versions of the modern sound of bass, techno and house. Ivan Voltanov (aka Zimmer G) is a lounge and downtempo guru who has released several albums in this sound. The symbiosis of such different views on electronic music has resulted in a sound that can best be described as classic house with vintage treatment. Semena EP provides 4 Deep, Melodic, Jazz tinged house cuts that will work just as well for listening as in the club. To round this EP off nicely Russia's finest purveyor of dancefloor soul Lay-Far is drafted in to provide a breaks lead rendition of Deesheetah.

Musically, geographically, and internationally these backgrounds have arrived at a centre point hence the christening of the project, 'Mid-Ground’.

German talents Júlio Cruz and Momo Arigato join forces for a superb new deep house release for Istanbul based imprint Petra, with each artist taking care of two originals each. 

Cologne native's Júlio Cruz makes tracks that are close to the dance floor with a chill vibe that really makes a mark. His opener Chercher La Nuit is a bubbling house cut with a warm and fat bassline. Lush chords bring light and emotion and carry you away. Dancing Love Affair has a big heart with soulful chords and disco tinged beats getting you moving. 

Leipzig's Momo Arigato's tracks represent the pure side of house music with sampled elements brings them alive and have come on labels like Friend in Need and Bigbait before now Mario's Rhythm is a raw, DIY groove with rough edged kicks and blasts of bass that are smoothed out with lush chords and experimental modulated sounds. Don't Believe is a dreamy track with cloudy pads and lumpy beats that are perfectly atmospheric and authentic. This then is a truly killer EP.

Next up for Sessions, we have Frenchmen and Silver Steps Records boss, Denyl Brook. The Marseille based producer & DJ came to surface in 2019 with releases on Hopera Records, Black Jack Records, Sooo Wet, and Neo Apparatus. On the production side of things, Denyl draws inspiration from legends like Daft Punk to Paul Johnson, but also from artists like Black Loops & Demuja. His sound would be best described as catchy, groovy, and raw. It's really hard not to catch a vibe listening to his tracks and this guest mix is no different. Groovy & warm textures blending the old and the new.

George John is an undiscovered talent from Schweinfurt, Germany. He came on our radar about a year ago and when we heard his amazing talent for funky songwriting and production - we had no choice but to release his new EP: Personal Bars.

George's sound is characterised by his amazing skills on the piano as he studied Jazz from a young age. The 7 track EP is ride through his personal affiliations with Jazz, Funk, Electro and 80's Synth Wave. How familiar these genres may sound to you; George's sound is unique and unmatched in the electronic music industry. His tracks take you on a journey of groovy, melodic and harmonic sections; each track has about 4 or 5 of them - and bridges with the wildest solos played on his acoustic or Rhodes piano. Topped off with an Italo & Frenzy remix from Italian producer XXXIII, this release has all the summer Funk you need and can not be missing in your collection.
