Train Wrecks is a new podcast series from Dustin Zahn & Enemy Records. Contrary to most podcasts related to electronic music, Zahn has chosen to go for a talk-show format where he’ll host weekly guests from the techno and house community. The basis will always be industry and music related, but the main emphasis will be placed on the personalities, stories, opinions, and daily-lives of the DJs and producers themselves.

    “A goal of mine is to give people insight to some of their favorite acts. An even bigger goal is to introduce them to acts they haven’t heard of or perhaps people they have chosen to ignore. I think once you learn what someone is about or what they stand for as a musician and as a person, it changes your whole perspective.” –Dustin Zahn

The comical-yet-educated tone is inspired by the early days in which DJs initially spend time at home with friends as they discover records and beat-matching for their first time. Train Wrecks has quickly set that tone for series by making the first few episodes available immediately. Initially, the show will debut two episodes per week before slowing the pace down to approximately one per week. Zahn also intends for the podcast to be a ‘limited-run’ project due to other commitments but hasn’t excluded the idea of bringing in other hosts.

    “With the demise of message boards and rise of social media threads, there has been a lack of discussion among music fans. The only thing people seem to discuss is sensationalized stories or videos from events. I hope to bring real discussion back to the table and educate some people along the way. Some episodes will be much more fun and light-hearted whereas other episodes will be history lessons or focused on industry-related advice.” –Dustin Zahn

Adam Beyer - Remainings III (Dustin Zahn Remix)

After his recent remix of Dustin Zahn’s ‘Submit Yourself,’ Rene Wise returns to Enemy Records with his own EP, “Jungle House.” All 5 tracks are perfectly in line with Wise’s signature grooves while delivering different moods suited for each part of the night.

“Jungle House” is an EP that has been teased by a few select taste-making DJs in their sets over the past year. Pandemic delays be damned, the record has finally arrived!

Screeching kicks things off with a heavy bleep-focused hook that slowly evolves over the track while remaining focused and restrained. It’s a perfect balance of old school Techno influence with new school nuances and sensibilities. Jungle House flips the script with saturated jacking drums and hypnotic vocals. It’s the ideal track for injecting some funk into the mix while keeping things deep and rolling.

Cosmo drops the heads-down business and goes straight for the jugular. It’s full of peak-time energy thanks to a pulsating, percussive workout that constantly modulates and locks the user into the groove. Gummy closes out the 12” with an extremely hypnotic and trippy vibe that might have you wondering what the hell is going in that jungle at night. Lastly, Dogs completes the digital EP and the title does exactly what it says. If you like dogs, this one's for you. If you’ve ever been attacked by dogs then...well...this is awkward.

Rene Wise returns to Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records with a massive follow up to 2022’s label debut, Jungle House. On “Deprivation,” the Moving Pressure artist delivers 4 undeniable, heads-down Techno grooves in his signature style.

Minimalism is the theme on the A-side. Anxiety and Insomnia are both stripped down and tripped out. Both hold steady in arrangement, allowing for the smallest details to shine through. Each track is topped off with Rene’s otherworldly synth washes and FX splashes atop of steady unwavering grooves.

A slight departure from his usual grooves, the B-side drifts off into uncharted territory while keeping in line with the moodiness of the A side. Sakar focuses on a pulsating tension-building synth line in constant flux. Meanwhile, staccato basslines and percussive splashes merge to form the record’s funkiest moment on Cutting Thick.

This is one of my most-requested live recordings in a while! For 4 days at Fusion, ~80,000 people grow a tail and run free in the German forest. It’s what happens when uncompromising art collides with anti-capitalistic freedom. I was invited to play on Saturday night from 2:30am-4:30am on Fusions biggest stage, Turmbühne. Soundtracked by heavy, intense psychedelia, this is a story of moving everybody from the darkest hour straight into sunrise. I wanted to push people’s limits, but I also wanted it to be fun. Thank you to those still standing and especially to the Fusion crew.

Bassiani Podcast 272 brings together two techno heavy-hitters for a three-hour bout of heady, rolling grooves. In one corner comes Georgian mainstay and grassroots agitator NDRX, a formative member of Tbilisi's techno contingent. His early efforts in expanding the city's nightlife offerings helped drive radical change, and shaped the decades since. His mission further translated into the founding of Stare at DJ (2012), and 11th Floor (2015). Both are vehicles for the gathering and promotion of local talent without which, Georgia today would look much different. In the other corner comes Dustin Zahn, a midwestern champion for tribal rhythms and pulsating hypnotism. Heavily armed with a flurry of references including the brain-melting IDM of the late 90s and iconoclastic beats, Dustin founded Enemy Records in 2004. In recent years, he has made appearances on labels like Blueprint, Token, and Rekids. He also hosts the Trainwrecks Podcast, an outlet for intimate face-to-face chats with industry peers. This storied duo are a menacing match, a b2b pairing that manifests the adrenaline-fueled techno native to both their sounds and whips up a sum greater than both its parts. This latest number is a bout of fevered techno havoc devised by two sonic confrères, an auditory onslaught of hammering loops recorded live at Bassiani's season closing night.

Currently celebrating 20 years of exploits and shenanigans, Enemy Records is back with a 4-track various artists EP featuring label-owner Dustin Zahn, Viels, Slone, and K.U.S.S. “IMMOLATION” exists as the spiritual successor of Enemy’s previous 4-track V.A., “BREAK A FANCY VASE.” The result is four infectious club tracks designed for optimal damage.

Zahn starts oﬀ with “Surrender the Body,” a deep narrative-focused roller designed especially for late night party people dealing with a lot of internal dialogue going on. If the meditative vocals are too much, he also supplies an alternative instrumental version, like any proper vocal
club track should have!

Slone’s “Throttled” is a heads down minimalistic roller expertly filled with tension. These moments of tension break with in-your-face synth work sprinkled in at just the right moments, leading to massive responses on the dance floor.

Parisian producer KUSS finally makes his label debut with “Encounter,” a polyrhythmic percussive workout that functions as a perfect tool for working DJs. The track features the perfect balance of sci-fi elements and club functionality.

Viels finishes oﬀ the EP with “Nessun Battito.” Viels combines dreamy call-and-response hooks with steady yet crafty 909 workouts to build a perfect introspective-leaning vibe that still works great at peak time.

“Man Worships Power” is the first in a small series of joint releases between Enemy Records and Emmanuel’s ARTS Records. Like rare split EPs from record labels in the past, each label takes control of one side of the vinyl for a double-sided release. With high mutual admiration between both labels, it was inevitable that a project like this was bound to happen. For this special occasion, we offer a full-sleeve cover with amazing photography from Sander Meisner.

On the first release, label owners Dustin Zahn and Emmanuel each picked two of their favorite tracks from each other. “Bark Like a Dog…” has already received regular play from Truncate and “Cargo” has been a secret weapon among DJs such as Zahn and Rodhad for the better part of a year.
