ClassicBeatz - The Boom Bap (feat. Fresh Daily & Black Spade)

In the closing months of 2012 BBE label artist Chris Read was enlisted by classic Los Angeles imprint Delicious Vinyl to produce a mixtape for Wax Poetics magazine celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde's seminal debut LP 'Bizarre Ride'. The resulting mix was a runaway success clocking tens of thousands of plays online and kickstarted a relationship with the label that would go on to see Chris remix two of the group's best loved tracks, 'Runnin' and 'Passin Me By'.

Those tracks are now available for the first time on this limited edition BBE x Delicious Vinyl double vinyl 7inch release. Treating the familiar original with respect, Chris has called upon the vocal talents of long time collaborators Lizzy Parks (Tru Thoughts) and guitarist Giles Barratt (Breakin Bread) to rework passages from 'Runnin' to create a 2014 update on the themes of the much loved Jay Dee produced classic. 'Passin Me By' meanwhile gets a '90s throwback rework utilising sample material from the original to great effect to create a track which bears all the hallmarks of the golden era.
Mastered and cut by Walter Coelho who cut Jay Dee's 'Welcome to Detroit' back in 2001, the circle is complete!

‘One Try’ is the second remix EP from BBC New Music Award winning jazz / soul / electronica ensemble Maylight’s debut album ‘Almighty’ (released 25th March 2016 on BBE Records).

The eight strong collective takes in the vocal talents of ex-Tru Thoughts vocalist Lizzy Parks, pianist Rob Barron whose resume includes session work for the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West and Jay Electronica and BBC Performing Arts Prize winning saxophonist Mary Wakelam. On trumpet are Aida Severo’s Joe Egan and Percy Pursglove, a first class graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire’s jazz course who has played for groups including The Duke Ellington Orchestra and The Coltrane Ensemble. Trio Tekke’s Colin Somervell appears on bass. Dave Holland Award winning drummer Jim Bashford, (currently playing for multi-platinum selling jazz vocalist Katie Melua) also appears.

The group is produced by BBE signing Chris Read whose work includes productions and remixes for the likes of Grammy Award winning vocalists Algebra Blessett and Bilal, hip hop man of the moment Oddisee, Tokyo Dawn-signing Pugs Atomz and the Pharcyde.

Remixes on this bumper 9 track EP come courtesy of an array of international production talent: Oak Welsh of The Hics, a band recently championed by Gilles Peterson, draws on folk and electronica influences for his rework. Chris Read delivers a trio of versions which include a broken beat revival number, the electronic soul stylings of the album version and a single edit which features guest vocals from Chicago’s Pugs Atomz. A pair of house reworks come courtesy of Kid Suda from Barcelona’s Raw Format collective and Boean’s Real whose productions have found favour with internet tastemakers Eton Messy and Subsoul among others. A remix from Brazilian Drum & Bass duo and recent Tru-Thoughts signings Drumagick takes the track yet further uptempo and completes this international package.

New compilation from Norwegian based label So Real International: "Vol. 2: The Reintroduction" is out 25th August and features a stellar line up of artists from all over the world. 

Snoop Dogg, Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, Devin The Dude, Daz, Kurupt, Domino and Georgia Ann Muldrow are just a few of the US artists included on the tracklist. There are also contributions from UK and Belgium.  Add Norwegian heavyweights OnklP and Ralph Myerz in the mix, along with a lot of new and up and coming artists and you have a mighty impressive tracklist.
