With three smoking albums already under his belt, Donny Benet is working hard to bring that magical touch to a fourth album of musical aphrodisiacs, to be released in late 2016.

Get 2 know Nicky Benedek: a producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DJ. His compositions bridge the nebulous territories of house, boogie, hip-hop, jazz-fusion and experimental new age.

Born and bred in Los Angeles, Benedek began pulling inspiration from the city’s structural and visual dichotomies at a young age. He picked up a guitar at 9 years-old, taking note of any and all sonic surroundings, from prevalent West Coast G-funk to the synthesized sound effects in video games to a Herbie Hancock record pulled from his dad’s collection. Amongst a complex set of influences, funk took a hold on his heart by high school. 

Out July 28th, Bene’s World is Benedek’s second Leaving Records release, following last year’s Coolin’ EP as well as a full-length debut on the influential Peoples Potential Unlimited label. His catalogue also includes collaborations with Dam-Funk, Delroy Edwards and Tom Noble. Recorded between his Koreatown studio and the West LA home he grew up in, Bene’s World captures the characteristically-LA mingling of urban action and canyon seclusion.

COVID-19: fear and anxiety (25 March 2020)

E2E: What environment or context did you have in mind when recording the mix?

I noticed that all the Ear 2 Ear mixes had a particular theme so before I was even asked to contribute to the series, I had a particular theme in mind for it - if I ever got asked to contribute that is. The theme I chose was music for stargazing. Which brings me back memories to some of the most special and spiritual experiences I've had with my closest friends. I wanted to create a mix of music that suited the environment we found ourselves in. A group of us alone, set on a beach with the ocean washing the sand as we lay there staring into the open sky. The stars twinkling as the air sung in the background, all of us in a complete state of relaxation, losing all sense of self, transcending and connecting as one, with each other and with the earth itself.

E2E: Tell us a bit about your new Body Corp alias, have you got any new work coming up?

Body Corp is I guess an outlet for more electronic/dance music that I write. I’m currently working on finishing another 2 EPs mainly and always just working on new tracks, especially during this time while there’s more of it. One of the EPs is a follow up to the first release with Soothsayer and the other is in its early stages and a bit more relaxed, less for the dance floor and more for listening at home. That one is a work in progress so we’ll see where it goes.. シ
