Jake Muir is a Berlin based sound artist, DJ and field recordist. He approaches his practice as a listener first, carefully curating, layering and processing sounds that help him deconstruct and contextualize his lived experiences and influences. Using investigative software methodologies, DJ techniques and engineering dexterity, Muir makes deeply personal sonic art that fluidly traverses genre membranes, encouraging reflection and sometimes prompting psychedelic states.

This mix is essentially a studio distillation of the two DJ sets I played during bathing hours at Washington Baths in Portland, Maine last year, for @poolemusicltd. Beyond the aquatic aesthetics tying back to saunas and my time spent living in California and Seattle, it is also inspired by an essay I discovered while trying to find cover art for Bathhouse Blues. “Spiritual dimensions of self-transformation in Sydney’s gay bathhouses”, by Jason Prior and Carole Cusack, explores how gay bathhouses were viewed as places of worship by the patrons and what transpired there as being “rituals”. Given this backdrop, there are various references in the mix, both literal and figurative, to said dimensions associated with rituals and spirituality.

a. Today it's raining in Lisbon, it feels heavy, yet strangely comfortable. The birds are calm, the dogs are dreaming while the ocean sleeps under a warm silver blanket.

a. While travelling from point A to point B

a. Technically 7 objects but my seven dragon balls 🙂

a. I'm working on a short film on London's parallel lives, from the point of view of a lighter.
