Fete, who are the sunshine production duo of Sean Brosnan and Julian Peck, have delivered a scattering of releases on London's Needwant include ‘The Islands’, 'Don't Argue' and 'Leaving Home’, now return with another beautiful piece of electronica with ‘Land' 

Rich with warmth synths, euphoric strings, and a groove-inducing bassline, ‘Land’ is the recipe for the perfect summer soundtrack. A track that gradually progresses, easing in the instrumentation before releasing its blissful mid-point crescendo. 

Swapping sunset euphoria for sunrise swaying, the ambient mix offers a beatless alternative to the original, allowing the emotion of the strings and synths to sing.

Recognisable faces in Balearic circles, Joel Hood & Channel Swimmer’s remix also uses progression to build tension. The mix incorporates the track’s synths and strings, whilst their interpretation veers into disco territory with a chunkier bassline, retro pads, and a subtle injection of vocals.

Now lot of people don’t like Mondays and we think that’s fair enough; going back to work feeling a decade older after a heavy weekend spent making memories with friends can be a chore for even for the most optimistic of us as we trudge back in to the daily grind. Fear not this week though as our favourite type of Monday, Acid Mondays are on hand to help stave off those post weekend blues today with the exclusive premiering of their new Wolfgang Haffner remix for Rockets & Ponies.

With it’s HQ in rural Germany Rockets & Ponies has long bucked the trend by providing a coterie for the outsiders ­ those deemed  ‘too strange for the normal business’ (which considering the amount of labels based in uber liberal Berlin is quite a statement) with an ethos that fosters freedom of  expression, experimentation and an avant­garde approach. So who better to present a remix package of works by Jazz luminary Wolfgang Haffner that includes Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, Nightmares on Wax, Acid Mondays and label founder Timo Maas. 

When approaching Wolfgang Haffner’s output ‘prolific’ doesn’t quite seem to cover it. With a career that spans over 30 years beginning in the German and French Jazz Ensemble and moving on to collaborative works with the likes of Chaka Khan, Bill Evans and Roy Ayres, Haffner has appeared on over 350 recordings.  The selected material within this package is taken from his latest album ‘Heart Of The Matter’ released through The ACT Company in 2013 ­ ‘Melodia’, ‘Luna’ and ‘Bing’ are twisted, stretched and reformed by the eminently prestigious roster of remixers. 

For us the pick of the bunch was DT favorites Acid Monday’s alternative take on ‘Bing’ and we knew from first listen that this was a release we needed to secure for the hallowed pages of DT.

Before he releases ‘Don’t Believe In Happiness’, his next full length album on the label, Finnish artist Jori Hulkkonen teases us with two new tracks on My Favorite Robot Records.

Hulkkonen is a regular on this label with his three last albums coming through the imprint. A prolific producer with a real mastery of his synths, he creates atmospheric soundtracks couched in techno but with a wide world of influences contained within. These new tracks are two of the more DJ friendly cuts from the “rather dark and moody forthcoming album, and have been secret weapons in his sets for a while now.

Up first, the majestic ‘I am the Night’ has all elements Jori has come to love in house music over the past 30 years: a slightly distorted, punchy 808, mystic vocal sample and a dramatic chord sequence. It is a serene and zoned out cut that really gets you under its spell.

On the flip, ’Tintån Terdel’ is a more laid-back groove based on a fine chord structure and with a bouncy bassline reminiscent of Metro Area and arpeggios a la Daft Punk from their golden turn of the millennium period, all finished with chords from Miami Vice-era Jan Hammer. “This track is dedicated to my favourite hangout in my home town in Turku,” says Jori of the breezy and laid-back number.

These two great cuts offer a tantalising taster of what is to come from the full album later in the year.

An excellent EP which includes remixes by Patlac and Seven Villas creative-guru, Pablo Bolivar.
