In celebration of international women’s day week and ahead of her sophomore EP release coming out on @mememerecords - my guest on the second half of the show, is @cici-cavanagh 

Irish-born DJ and producer Cici began her career in 2009. Cici has a debut EP Extraneous, which garnered regular plays on BBC Radio 1 with glowing reviews on @mixmag-1 @resident-advisor and @djmag.

Since, Cici has played on a plethora of radio shows in the UK and across Europe, delivering flawless mixes for @fabric, NYC Downlow, @lobster-theremin , @openlabradio, @resident-advisor, Keinemusik, Circoloco and LA-Based @dublab demonstrating her flawless mixing skills and extensive knowledge for acid house.

Elic, aka Giorgio Di Natale, is a DJ and producer from Bari, Puglia (Italy).

He was initiated into electronic music at a young age, when he began attending clubs in the area and working as a PR. Soon after, he discovered, while frequenting the most transgressive Florentine clubs and the Adriatic Riviera, a passion for house music and everything that runs around the world of clubbing. The uncontrollable desire and instinct to listen and buy records to share with friends and people, led him to take up DJing in 1999.

With the huge background behind him and the various styles that contaminated him, he decided to let this flow into productions as well, and it was not until 2021 that he entered the world of music production. Thus was born Elic and his label HELICAL. "Retourism" is the label's first EP and collects three tracks ranging from electronic to techno and minimal. A journey through hypnotic atmospheres, but with an eye always on the dancefloor.

There’s a subtle power to Beta Librae’s productions, an invitation to lose yourself in the moment, and give way to the whispering synths and striking kicks. Like a steady pulse, sounds melt into one another without missing a beat, often making time difficult to place. Vibrant animations are reflected in the sci-fi spaciousness and unpredictable grooves. With a strong connection to visual art, it's fitting that her tracks would be so evocative. Like a daydream, her music takes you through memories and landscapes to create a lasting emotional resonance. Her recent releases, a track on comp 4 by 1221 and cassette S/T for Lillerne Tapes, are marked by experimentation into the floating world of dub-tinged ambience and techno. Unraveling genre preconceptions, Beta Librae repeatedly dives into the unknown.

For Truancy Volume 170, she continues this imaginative and free-flowing approach, with the first 44 minutes dedicated to her recent musical creations. The second half explores tracks she has been listening to recently, most of them given to her by friends. From the hypnotising keys of Downstairs J to the surreal sounds of Buttechno, the mix highlights a variety of genres that appear to influence Beta Librae’s own productions. In the accompanying interview, we discuss childhood inspirations, life in New York, contemporary art and upcoming plans, and she delves into the nuances of her creative process.
