Electro Boogie (episode 12: Carl Finlow special)

Electro producer from the Netherlands, who started his career at the infamous Bass Agenda Recordings label from the UK in 2014. Releases include records on labels like HillTown Disco, Blind Allies, and the mighty Discos Atoniocos from Berlin. He also operates as 1/4 of the Transhumanism collective, who have a 5th installment of their series coming in 2022. Currently he is finalizing his first album which is coming out on Utrax. E-L-E-C-T-R-O mix November 2021

Holy Island, an island off of the coast of North Wales is where Dez Williams begun spinning wax at an early age and now maintains his humble analogue / digital studio. Isolated from the marketing, fashion and pretentious attitudes that plague the music industry, Dez is free to express himself through his machines. 

Safe from this environment he is unconstrained and has no urge to conform with any ideal or aesthetic and thus his electronic music is pure self expression. A window into his soul. His day job at an electronic components factory means that he is no stranger to repetition, rhythm and electronics. 

His sound is perhaps a product of his daily grind with boredom, escapism, events in his life and a long term passion for technology, horror and science fiction. Inspired by many of the classic Chicago / Detroit / Electro / Techno producers, like the finest, his sound is unique, uncompromising and unpredictable. His vision of Techno is deep and futuristic with a heavy dose of Funk. 

Dez's passion for sound and the darker side of the human spirit compels him to create tracks on an almost daily basis and  he sits on an incredibly vast archive of cassettes, mini-discs and CD's of his work. Yet his reclusive nature dictates that his release schedule remains sparse. His tracks can range from driving Techno, to melancholy and dark synthesizer orchestrations, ghostly deep listening, straight up Electro cuts and beyond. Sometimes simple, sometimes complex, within his sounds are vast amounts of detail for the listener to decipher. Emotions transmitted through mathematics and code. 

Williams' tracks have found their way into the sets of DJ's like Dave Clarke, Andrea Parker, Adam X, John Peel, Ellen Allien, Mike Dred, Rob Hall and many more.

He has constantly retained an underground / cult fanbase. His debut LP 'Elektronik Religion' for the SCSI label was hailed as "One of the very few truly great Electro albums of the new century". Dez remains true to the underground and simply creates for the love and need to do so. The mark of a true artist. 

He continues to DJ and play live sets worldwide and has had releases on a variety of record labels including  Bedouin, Earwiggle, Trust, Minimal Soul, Warmdata, Acruacree, Ai, Cheap, SCSI-AV, Blase, Voodoo, and Ben Sims' Native imprint.

We are starting this new year 2022 with a new monthly series of special mixes each dedicated to an Electro label!

The first episode, dedicated to the UK label "Bass Agenda Recordings", is mixed by its boss himself : Andy Barton.

Bass Agenda Recordings began in 2013, with its debut release, the compilation entitled ‘The Fight Against the Mundane’. That CD and digital release featured many of the guests that had appeared on the Bass Agenda Radio show in its first year, such as w1b0, The Exaltics, Sync24, Scape One, The Hidden Persuader, and Alavux.
Since 2013 the label has put out over 100 releases on digital, vinyl, CD, and USB formats spanning the various nuanced styles in the Electro genre, and Techno too. Just like the radio show, the focus of the Bass Agenda label is on exploring the wide range of sounds out there and doing so by releasing music by brand new talents, established artists doing new things, and some of the Electro genre’s biggest names.
The label has been championed since its inception by Dave Clarke and has grown over the years to become a regular source of tracks for home DJs, podcasters, magazines, and some the world’s biggest names, including Juan Atkins, DJ Stingray, Helena Hauff, UMEK, Alienata, and many more.
In 2020 Bass Agenda Recordings curated and released CAREBOT$, a massive 100+ tracks compilation raising money for NHS Charities Together and Médecins Sans Frontières Covid-19 initiatives. So far, the CAREBOT$ has raised over £10,000. After this project Andy Barton, who runs all things Bass Agenda, decided the label would take a break. The label will return, but no specific date or plans have been made as yet. The Bass Agenda Radio Show continues and broadcasts on www.deepspaceradio.com in Detroit. Guest on the show have included Anthony Rother, The Hacker, Juan Atkins, Detroit in Effect, Dez Williams, Jensen Interceptor, Helena Hauff, CYRK, DJ Godfather, Radioactive Man and over 150 more.
