Exactly one year after his 2021 release entitled 'The Electro Manifesto', DVS NME returns with a collection of new tracks that were produced between late 2021 and early 2022. This 25-track album is another thematic nod to class struggle with the hope to stir class consciousness in listeners. Every song title makes reference to some tenant of the destructive and unequal economic system called capitalism as well as its ever-looming shadow socialism. Even the album cover borrows inspiration from Soviet-era propaganda, re-adapting the artistic styles of many communist agitators.

This album, as with the last, relies heavily on the sounds of classic Electro machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, SH-2, System 100, Juno 60, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, as well as some contemporary additions to his studio like Hydrasynth, System 8, MC-101, Prophet Rev2, Novation Peak, Minilogue, SE-02, and Microkorg.

DVS NME is the man behind the weekly radio show/daily blog called 'Dark Science Electro' and has been a dedicated contributor to the Electro community for the last 11 years. LectrO cOd_E returns in full force with five staggering cuts sure to pulverize the boogie.  'Savidge Machine' rolls and bounces in that hyperactive manner we've come to expect from this prolific creator of no-nonsense electro.

The title cut hides a subliminal vocoder backdrop behind a chunky punch-up of thick breaks.  In direct continuation but slight contrast, 'Deep' takes over, lit up with neon bleep melodics and washes of metallic noise... a delicate weaving of synth lines rides this one out.

'Calkachu' brings an updated take on the signature manic LectrO cOd_E vibe, fusing a flurry of juicy synth hooks with some robotic posturing, filling the track's hefty mold of sub, breaks and popping percussion.

'LectrO Maniac' unwinds into strips of mechanical rhythm, shifting emphasis with each razor sharp transition. Spacious pockets in the beat show off a dirty pitched 808 bassline and leave space for an evolving mix.

'Modulated' tops the collection with a boombastic drum jam, strewn with pitchy nuances and stuttering effects breaks.  Woodwork alumni, Pablo Splice jumps on board with a remix of this one, adding a meandering bass hook to his revamped set of LectrO cOd_E beats. An extended tag rocks the floor with a barrage of abstract robot speak.

Mechanoreceptor (Wiremu Hohaia) is a New Zealand DJ and producer, based in Meanjin (Brisbane), Australia.

Mechanoreceptor gravitates toward sonics reminiscent of antiques and spectral dynamics that pervade our environment from an intently romantic standpoint.

Portugal’s Ovelha Trax featured Mechanoreceptor’s first release back in June. Two guest-mixes shortly followed on the Dark Science Electro channel and Curb Crawlers Radio. Mechanoreceptor’s debut EP is expected to be released in the near future on @crazed-behaviour, featuring two surprise remixes.

For the 2022 Halloscream Mix, expect darker tones and displays of the electro genre with subtle references to German Expressionism, the Venetian jester, extra-terrestrial unknowns, and Gothic architecture.

Breaking Waves 9-15-22

Today we introduce you to the Electro producer and live act OBZERV, based in the U.K. His music inspired by concepts from the realms of science fiction and through his subtle observation of life.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

- There is not one artist that has inspired me the most, different artists are constantly inspiring me in different ways. Two artists that come to mind straight away are Animistic Beliefs and The Outsert. These two artist have been inspiring me recently to create music that doesn’t specifically confine to any genre and takes inspiration from different genres and cultures to create something that is different.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have not been working very much on releasing music at the moment but you can expect to see some of my electro work on Cultivated Electronics and GunFinger Food in the coming year.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I really have no idea. I want to release some of my new music eventually but I am always asking myself which labels would be good for me to release on. For listening pleasure I have been listening to mostly friends music recently, labels such as Patchbay Records, Gunfinger Food feel relevant to me at the moment because I personally feel involved in their journey.

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- I mostly inspired by my friends to create music. I am constantly working with friends and in the midst of collaboration I feel that my most creative side comes out. I feel a lot more inspired when working with someone than when I am alone, I think this is because you have someone to bounce ideas back and fourth with and I feel a lot less judgmental about my work.

5. What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I have been gigging a bit recently so have been using my hardware to write music for my live sets. I am using a Digitakt, Digitone, SH01A, Micromonsta, a rat distortion pedal and a strymon deco tape saturation pedal. I will create ideas with this set up and try to make them into full tracks later on using ableton to record the sounds.
