In a good épicerie, one can find pretty much everything : an USB Key, a notebook, a lighter… you name it. With our own Epicerie, same principle applies to electronic music : muscular tech-house tracks are neighboring acid-riddled songs and weird synths. Today, this eclectic place welcomes yet another style : “Sorry To Tell”, a good old 90s house banger made in 2021. If there ever was a school for house music composition, this would be a case-study, from piano keys to sample usage, surrounded by the eloquent bassline. Enjoy the ride on time.

With a title that already anticipates its irreverent spirit, Scratch N Roll is an ode to rhythmic audacity and the street legacy of the old school, presented by Mr. Martin and Adrián Delgado in a Tech House format infused with urban elements and a compelling, overwhelming groove. The track, in 5A key and at 128 BPM, unfolds with dry, well-defined percussion: a firm kick with a direct attack and contained depth, reinforced by a gritty snare and crisp hats, which together construct a solid, vibrant, and addictive rhythmic framework. The bass adds weight in the mid-to-low frequencies, featuring a slightly distorted sequence and compressed textures that maintain a constant flow without overshadowing the vocals. The vocals are the heart of the track: a male vocal with a strong street attitude that alternates isolated phrases like Now Im in real trouble from feeling like you back in time or Fuck you, pay me with fragmented interventions, scratches, and intentional pitch errors that reinforce the old-school aesthetic. Multiple vocal layers are perceived, including spoken quotes, processed samples, and cuts that sound directly lifted from a nineties vinyl battle. The entire vocal performance conveys rebellion, irony, and a semi-improvised narrative that connects with the urban imagery of classic rap. In the melodic section, brief sequences of retro-styled synthesizers stand out, reminiscent of soundtracks like Space Jam or arcade video games, adding a playful and nostalgic touch to the piece. These synths appear intermittently, providing dynamism without saturating the sound space. The track does not rely on large builds or exaggerated drops: its progression is based on the alternation of grooves, rhythmic interplay, and the strategic placement of silences to maximize impact. Scratch N Roll does not seek to follow formulas but to impose its own identity: it is a cut designed for DJs looking to make a difference on the dance floor, with a raw, underground character and an aesthetic that blends contemporary Tech House with the disruptive attitude of street rap. The collaboration between Mr. Martin and Adrián Delgado feels perfectly assembled, without forcing prominence, resulting in a track with its own signature and an energy that overflows with authenticity from the first beat to the closing.

Next up from London imprint Nuances de Nuit comes another four track V/A which further solidifies the label’s sound and vision; spaced out soundscapes and music with personality.

Their slogan ‘Pour Les Danseurs’ (for the dancers) could not be more apt, with four more cool cuts that are carefully engineered to be played right the way through parties of all sizes.

Kicking things off is Mehlor and Le Louche’s Chromium, a slick fusion of cut up breaks, modulated synths and a fuckton of groove. Next up is the ‘Ode To Joy Instrumental’ mix of More Pumpin by Thyone Girls - A peak-time dance floor raiser. On the flip we have Local Dub, whom having garnered recent support from the likes of Gene On Earth follow on from a stand out EP on iO Mulen’s Hoarder with their contribution, Moon Dog. Rounding off is the return of Karaba to the label, dishing out a large helping of quirky house music with some intelligently executed synth work.
