Simple Song // voice memo

If you’re following along, I was clearly inspired by the xylophone pattern played in David Byrne’s original “Glass & Concrete & Stone” (which I finger picked in the acoustic cover) so I used the pattern to start something. It’s a bit less traditional in structure than “Glass”, this is more of a two parter than verse chorus verse. Par for the course.

Look at us hogtight hapless knee deep sleepin’ in the breach 
while all this talk sits riding out of our ears & through the weeds 
lost as a weighted ticker time bomb went & shook the sleight of hand 
		
		right out the mind it cracks like embers comin’ off an avalanche 
		down in angler’s corner with their onery plastic hands 
		runnin’ round in triangles to two time us baby it’s alright, 
		that you wouldn’t notice that wool that’s hangin’ over both your eyes

 we thought we’d escape then with even a dropper’s full 
of sense memory that there’d be enough at least to keep us warm 
sky blood red its checkered human past uncreases slow
	
	you ask me what had happened in my cold sweat dream that day
	two eyes lie so still on the marble asking after fate 
	to keep its mouth shut, its hands up, its swollen ghosts at bay
