Here is the first single and opening track off the forthcoming LP "Return to the Golden Era" by Awon & Phoniks entitled "Midas Touch" . "Return to the Golden Era" will be available on iTunes and at http://www.awonandphoniks.com this coming Tuesday, 7/30/2013.

The album attempts to bring back the golden era boombap sound of New York hip hop in the 90's, with sharp, clever emceeing by Newport News' Awon and smooth, jazzy production by Portland producer Phoniks.

Awon is an American underground hip hop artist who is currently making a name for himself amongst the international hip hop community. Most known for his Goon Trax debut, Beautiful Loser, Awon is also part of the group Awon & Kameleon Beats and a member of the hip hop collective, The Soul Students. Awon has worked on various works with Thomas Prime on Waiting for Tomorrow, and Love Supersedes II.

Phoniks is a 22 year old up and coming producer from Portland who has built a reputation online for his series of hip hop remix albums with classic/old school flare, 2011's "The Tape" and 2013's "Basement Vibes" and "Make Beats, Don't Sleep" have achieved success both domestically and internationally through his Bandcamp website. He has been featured on a number of hip hop blogs and magazines including Respect Mag, gripsquad.com,ughh.com, and whudat.de.

The flip side 'Little Stories' is on a more laid-back, 'classic' Hip Hop vibe and features a guest appearance from an American based MC called Definition. Through-out the whole track, Shut and Definition share mic duties; laying down a number of back-to-back killer verses. According to Dirty, the 'Little Stories' beat changed about 5 times, with the original version being made in 2011. He went through a number of different loops and drums until he came up with this beauty in August 2013.

This was my first full length LP originally released in 2008 via Goon Trax records and once again digitally in 2010 by Digi Crates records. I guess enough people did not know about it because people have been rediscovering it as of late. There is a lot of craziness behind this LP from meeting a cool new crew of friends, to a mysterious stolen hard drive. Looking back it's worth the rediscovery so I packed in a couple of extras and all the lyrics to the LP are available as well. If you can spare a couple of bucks that would be awesome, if not just spread the word so people know about the underground classic. The song deals with the task of maintaining a relationship while perusing his own dreams. He exposes his own flaws while pointing out the positive aspects of his lady. While this track may seem like a typical and smug ode to the opposite sex, it is quite deceptive in its own right. This song is developed with the streets in mind.
