AZ shadow is the first album in the catalog of our label "Der Schein". Its author is the resident of our project — Ilya Gurin-Babayeu (@thegurinbabayeu).

The album is the result of ghostly nostalgia and an attempt to comprehend the nature of chaos.

The initial inspiration was found in the childhood computer game «Zanzarah. The Hidden Portal». The most important context for understanding is an excerpt from the description of the game:

“One of the druids, the White Druid, created the Guardian, a semi-magical, semi-mechanical creature that began to guard the border between the worlds.

Time passed and the Guardian's magical powers dried up and he broke down - instead of protecting, he became aggressive towards those he was supposed to protect. Chaos began to spread in Zanzarah. "

Allusions at locations and events taking place in the mystical world of Zanzarah resonate with the sensations experienced from all aspects real life.

There is a parallel between childhood memories of the magical world and a completely unfamiliar feeling of homeland, which has changed beyond recognition in one year.

The album is imbued with fabulousness, asymmetry, sometimes with a literal feeling of the composition structure crumbling before the listener's eyes.

As it disintegrates, it then returns back to strike with even greater force.

In collaboration with ∄ and for its second birthday, Standard Deviation presents ’Vertex’ – a compilation of eight artists that contributed in shaping the sound of the Club over the course of the last year. A vertex is a point where several lines or objects meet and intersect with each other. It is synonymous to a node – a fundamental unit that consists of a set of edges that form a greater structure. The concept of a vertex is symbolic to both the Club’s and Label’s approach: connecting the dots between countercultures, bringing together local and international artists to form an inclusive dialogue

Second release on Клуб is co-produced by our Copenhagen friend Rune Bagge and features his two original tracks, as well as a vocal version of 'One Night' with lyrics co-written by Saint Petersburg based artist Nakulla Man and Sergey Sidorov with the assistance of Alexei Borisov of Nochnoi Prospekt fame. 

The vocal version is based on a viral video that was once accidentally shot on our Kurilka dancefloor, and draws inspiration from DAVE The Drummer's 'One Night in Hackney', hence telling the story 'of a young man that visited Клуб for the first time'. Rune, our trap-obsessed friend and a guest of the Kisloty series, kindly wrote the title instrumental in 1 hour time at our request specifically for the vocals. 

Musically, the two instrumentals showcase two respective sides of Bagge's production: while 'One Night' is an up-tempo, synthwave inclined post-dark industrial techno affair, 'Thank You For Not Snitching' is a much more of an emotional and atmospheric tune reminiscent of IDM/Breakbeat's golden days.  


It comes together with a video clip shot by our own Navsegda agency, the only one ever to be shot inside the historical Borovaya 116 building one week after the official closing of the venue, and follows a night-long journey through all the different rooms and experiences that constituted it, including a morning Russian pop sesh at the smoking room.
