Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

Western Canada’s underground scene has begun to shine and perhaps one of the brightest lights of the movement is the vinyl label, @heart-to-heart-recs. Keeping things in the commonwealth, label heads Bron and Secret Lover have tapped Aussie breakout @Subjoi for their next release.

A long time coming, HTH008 has already taken the internet by storm with the A1, a cheeky lofi rework of Kristine Blonds Love Shy, amassing almost a million plays on YouTube since its posting last year by Slav. As we've come to expect from Heart to Heart, the curation proves strong through all four tracks, with each cut showcasing different aspects of tastes shared by both the artist and the label. And although this is possibly the label's most approachable release, it stays true to their ever-growing catalog of versatile, stripped back dance music.

On the premiere, we’ve got IDK. A crunchy acid jam with slamming drums and an infectious vocal line. The thunderous kick is simultaneously relentless and hard to pin down as it thumps along under chord stabs and distorted hats — frequently interrupted with one-off fills and cuts. This adds a lot of interest and gels well with the unpredictable structure of the track that stays true to its name. About halfway through, things start to hit the rave and an acid line trickles in before becoming the focus of the track. The vocals keep the track grounded and relatable as it stomps along at an exhilarating 134BPM, leaving the listener unintentionally breathless by the song's end.

Cold Recordings is very proud to include Berlin based producer PHON.O as part of it’s growing roster by means of this immaculate EP. Across the 3 tracks, PHON.O demonstrates his ability to combine UK- bass influences with techno sensibilities, ultimately crafting cutting edge music for the dancefloor.

‘CLU5T3R’ opens the EP with a swinging 132bpm rhythm that sits somewhere in between classic UK-Funky and a cracking Shed/Heads High techno anthem. The repeating riff that circles and cycles, sweeps through the frequency spectrum, energising and purposeful. Versatile and effective, this is a track to come back to time and time again.

Flip the plate and there’s another couple of gems. ‘V3R5U5’ continues on from where ‘CLU5T3R’ left off, progressing the mood into a more ethereal space, building layers of pads and texture as the track developes, rising and ramping up, before pulling back and dropping into a rolling rhythm. Closing up the EP is ‘H4NDCUFF3D’, which takes the mood into a more dramatic backdrop. Chilling pads swell up from the ground like mist in a graveyard, while the broken rhythm sets pace, creating a moody ambiance for those moments when you want to take a dancefloor into mystical, other-worldly territories. Dramatic and energising!

The telephone rattled as he tapped buttons furiously with his chubby, grubby fingers. They left dirty marks imprinted on the white rubber buttons so as that the next person would need to clear up his mess. He didn't much care for the man who might dial next, this was his time of need. Dialling it in he would save his terrible day, turn it all around so as that he would travel home happily with a daft smile emblazoned upon his silly face. He was a man very much in need, of help that is.

J Wax features on a new split EP emerging from the Hilltown Disco camp, a record label operating out of the glorious town of Dundee up North. This one is all about the deep and hypnotic.
