This mix comes fresh out of my basement! I never do mixes, and on the few times I have they have always been to tape, so this is a very rare thing!

The selection are unplanned and spontaneous, very similar to a Lion Rockers session, with each tune riding off the next. 

It was originally meant to be a UK steppers mix, as we are one of the only crews running those styles in New Zealand, but it was a Sunday afternoon... So you get a selection of 70s roots music, pretty much all original 12" and 7" (we only play vinyl) and a fair bit from 1978. So it's still stepping, just not modern!

6FtSTIX aka STIX of Rise & Shine Rockers and Majestic Roots Sound System was formally introduced to sound system culture back in 2011. Experiencing Aba-Shanti-I at the junction of Southern & East Row, W10, London ignited the fire. From there the education, research and record collecting began. 

After moving back to his hometown of Tauranga, Bay of Plenty he and Amelio-B formed Rise & Shine Rockers in 2016. The crew played sessions every now and then until the summer of 2019 - 2020, when the pace was picked up with a busy summer and gigs across the Bay of Plenty. Over this summer period he was also welcomed into the Majestic Roots crew with Mikey Majestic.

Stix says, ‘For this mix I’ve taken a selection of my favourite tunes that I’ve played out over the summer. It’s a very approachable selection with out trying to go deep and obscure. These songs always brought the vibes particularly at the Voodoo Lounge 'At The Dub Market' sessions in Mt Maunganui. Big up NiceUp Aotearoa for the opportunity to present a mix.’

MACHINE GIRL CLUE WEAR MIX

We're all on the dance floor. All we've been thinking for hours is elation and briefly "track ID?" That doesn't matter though. You look up as light peeks through bushes, birds chirp and music continues to play, a stark contrast to an otherwise still and placid morning. Echoing this contrast, dancers move with intention that is simultaneously languid and energised. They've been going for a while but show no signs of stopping. Maybe its something in the air, maybe its that friend who retrieved a tray of long blacks or maybe its something a little more funky. Regardless @cruelnoon are at the helm of this particular vibe on Shell Tape 29.

Side winding through left-field techno, twisted disco permutations, pop with a hardcore rave edge and braindance bass music, the Perth production duo's joyful romp covers all corners of the dance music map - both sonically and geographical. 

Blends and arrangements that on paper seem like a high speed u-turn are executed with steeze and flair, keeping listeners and dancers hanging out for the next eclectic selection that's sure to breathe new life into whatever setting you're in.
