Venice. A city of canals, masks, and hidden passions. Here, amidst foggy streets and whispers of history, Francesco Tamburrano (@ft-dubtechno) seeks thrill, risk, and fate. His new album, The Gambler, is more than eight tracks in the dub techno genre—it is a musical reinterpretation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel The Gambler. Every sound, every vibration feels like a roll of the dice, leading the listener into deep, almost mystical labyrinths of the human psyche.

It begins with “Alexei Ivanovich”—an introspection of a hero teetering between passion and madness. “Polina Alexandrovna” shrouds you in melancholy and mystery, as if the music tells its own secret intrigues. “General” resonates with authority and order, while “Madame de Cominges” gently draws you into an elegant game of seduction and manipulation. “Marquis de Grieux” is a rhythmic elegy of desire, “Mr Astley” hints at hidden motives and perilous games, “Mlle Blanche” transports you into a light, almost ethereal illusion, and “Potapych” concludes the album, leaving a lingering sense of contemplative longing and the inevitability of fate.

Each composition by Francesco Tamburrano is crafted with the precision of an alchemist: deep motifs intertwine with spatial effects, creating the sensation that the sound breathes alongside you. This album is an experiment at the boundaries of time, space, and emotion.

What makes it truly special is that The Gambler is released on the Russian label [PIRANHA SIBERIA DUB]. An artist who has been a central pillar in dance music's underground house, Barry Jamieson is an iconic and legendary name with over two decades of high-profile experience. Having worked with Sasha on his ground-breaking "Involver" and Involv2er", Jamieson's solo career has found a similarly elevated level of success. With his music wedded to the acclaimed microCastle, Quivver's Boz Boz and his own Circular Sounds Recordings, Jamieson's Mono Electric Orchestra pseudonym has seen him feature on John Digweed's Bedrock and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings with stunning results. Remixing Kastis Torrau & Donatello's "Ida", under his own name, Jamieson now returns as Mono Electric Orchestra to rework "Organik". Creating a sonic landscape of unparalleled quality, heavily effected reverse reverb hints at Khan's motifs as orchestral passages sing across the mid-range. Hitting its stride, a huge glissando bassline punches through the low-end in stripped-back glory against a ticking percussive cadence, before the melodic structures build once more with a plucked riff and rousing string passages that are straight out of the Sasha production playbook. The result is a remix that is at the very pinnacle of underground dance and a timeless classic.
