History

Pre-debut

Jae and Kal are first cousins through their mothers who are sisters. Jae was born in Cape Town, South Africa and lived in Durban until his family decided to move to New Zealand in 2000, Jae then moved to Australia in early 2007. Kal, born and raised in Melbourne, Australia grow up around the greater Joyce family and the musical influence that is celebrate and runs in the family.

Jae who has been writing and recording since 2000, is the group’s MC (rapper). He homed his skills in Auckland, New Zealand where he begin working with other musically inspired people looking to build a career in the industry. To Jae’s credit he has recorded a mixtape album entitled “Pre Grandure” and has a solo album due for release 2010/2011 entitled “The Grand Opening”.

Kal’s first ever experience on stage came about as a show piece dancer for Jabulani. At barely 6 years of age, young kali was used as Jabulani's halftime entertainment and pre show act. Imitating dance moves such as bobby browns 'Running Man', the late Michael Jackson’s 'Moonwalk', Kali was accompanied by his cousin Chris Wagner who was also part of the act.

Post-debut

“Dynasti: Members of a family distinguished for there success”, consisting of two members: Jarred “Jae Grand” Bester (MC) and Kali “VoKal” Alwan (Vocalist), started out 2007. Now with one EP Album completed, 8 stand out tracks, multiple performances at Melbourne most acclaimed Hip Hop and R&B venues, nightclubs and festival events such as Federation Square and Billboards, support Gigs for platinum selling & award winning R&B US international artist Lloyd and 112’s front man Slim and featured track on DJ Nova’s “SuperNova Mixtape” to their credit.

The first record effort by the group was the EP Album “The Dynasti Continues” featuring 8 original self written tracks, one of which features cousin and Australian Idol finalist Liza Dimitriadis on the track “In The Family”, which is dedicated to the memory of their late Uncle ‘Abby Joyce’, the musically inspirational and Lead Vocalist of the sibling comprised group “Jabulani”, the album also contanted a bonus solo track written and performed by Jae Grand. The EP launch which was held at ‘Watermark’ on the docklands in Melbourne, a prominent Hip Hop and R&B venue at the time. The launch featured Dynasti performing 4 of their tracks with a live acoustic band with backing vocals from Joan Alwan (VoKal’s mother) formally of Jabulani and Liza Dimitriadis for their first set and then 4 more tracks with backing tracks and supported by the choreography and dancers of Melbourne’s own dance collective “Allure”. The night was supported by DJ’s such as: Craig G, DJ Havana Brown, Sean D and MC Junior.

The Dynasti Continues was just the start of what was to come from the group, since then the duo have been back in the studio and are set to release their debut album entitled “Grand-Musi-Kal”.. The Emergenza Music Festival Competition is where the group established their first bit of exposure, the competition seemed to be the perfect platform to get the ball rolling and indeed it did. Dynasti taking out 1st place for the first two legs of the competition which meant that they had secured a place amongst the final 14.

The finals was held at Billboards on Russell Street in Melbourne CBD, the venue boast a large stage, excellent lighting and an incredible sound system. The group took the stage to a mass of screaming supporters, family and friends. Dynasti delivered four tracks for a twenty minute set.At the end of the competition Dynasti took 4th place out of 60 bands who had taken part in the competition.

The Dynasti Continues (2008)

The EP album was the first recording effort by the duo which was completed in early 2008 shortly after the group’s conception in late 2007. The album was the stepping stone to the groups currently experienced success with an unexpected following and hype with in the Melbourne club and festival scene.
