The Sound of Time with Zarina on N10.AS

Jaan-e-Haseena is a performance-activist, musician and video-artist based in Lahore. She started making music at the start of her transition; quickly, sound became a medium for radical self-advocacy. Her first song, “Izzat” became Sindh Moorat March’s official anthem. As she witnessed a community form around the song - a community that became her chosen family - she became convinced that strategic cultural-production could do wonders for repairing Lahore and Karachi’s fragmented, class-segregated queer social scene.

She founded and currently leads Zenaan-Khana (ZK). ZK creates visibility around the marginalization of trans and alternative-ishq practicing Pakistanis through trans-led cultural production. In a cultural climate that censors trans-thought, it has become a political project striving to radically liberate queer/trans bodies through class-conscious and subversive artivist strategies. ZK collaborates with leading artists to expand Pakistan’s gen-Z queer-arts culture through art-raves, visual-art production, and miscellaneous performance pop-ups in Lahore’s infamous cruising-spots.
Her vision is to penetrate the mainstream art-scene to amplify indigenous wisdoms around gender and sexuality as narrated by grass-roots khwaja-sira organizers, and divert resources from high-art spaces to direct mutual aid for trans-women. 

She is also a writer and budding academic, hoping to study how cultural phenomenologies of psychosis, ethics and discipline shape the parameters of queer and trans advocacy in different Pakistani regional contexts. Currently, she is pursuing an MPH at John’s Hopkins as a Sommer Scholar, where she is the first trans-person to be awarded this fellowship which includes a fully-funded degree and research consultancies at the intersection of violence prevention, novel MNE-design and trans public health innovation. She hopes to work within the critical GSS space following graduation in any capacity, with plans to eventually pursue a PhD within this or an adjacent discipline. Art has radical potential for trans-liberation in Pakistan; and she is tapping into its multiple possibilities.

Liz, aka Outtatime (she/they) is a Brooklyn-based DJ from Toronto. Weaving through diverse styles of underground music, you're almost sure to unearth something new during her sets. Expect percussive rhythms and experimental dance that cut through the static of mundanity.

Rukham Khan, originally from Lahore, Pakistan, is a Lisbon-based DJ and co-founder of the bass music collective Stank Face. His sound is all about fun, cheekiness, and getting the crowd moving. In this submission, he kicks things off with some introspective tracks before taking the set into a selection of fringe, dancefloor-friendly rhythms.
