Tartelet Records rounds out 2018 with ‘Minor Forms’ by Urulu, a bumping EP that winds up the label’s roster of ambitious releases to celebrate its tenth year in business. 

The California producer and DJ has made his mark this year with a string of standout releases on Kalahari Oyster Cult, Voyage Recordings and his own Amadeus imprint, showcasing his affection for euphoric nostalgia and tight grooves.
 
Urulu stretches out with signature key changes and an elegant hustling tempo across four tracks, reflecting the diversity of touches and influences he has become known for. On ‘Minor Forms’, he teases the straight and the breakbeat with elements of jungle, electro, ambient and old school, delivering a satisfyingly moody resonance amidst the dancefloor functionality. 

Urulu follows Max Graef, Glenn Astro, Space Ghost and others in Tartelet’s 10th year, celebrating the label’s commitment to work across genres.

With releases on labels such as Traxx Underground and Rekids, he definitely has his finger on the pulse of proper house music, which is validated by support from artists like Karizma, DJ Harvey and The Black Madonna.

That being said his latest offering is an unrelenting broken beat gem that bridges progressive breaks, acid house with ethereal elements. So, strap in, and enjoy.

Yellow Island Records is a brazilian record label. Inspired by the creative and chaotic environment of São Paulo city, Felipe Bortoloti, better known as Nørus and Flávio Albino, aka Albin, founded the plataform in 2018 as a way to connect artists from different parts of the World.

Working on its seventh release, Various Artists 2020, Felipe & Flavio have managed to wrangle in singles from dance producers and artists from North and South America, Europe, and Australia. Our favorite tune from this 23 track collection comes from Melbourne native DJ Life, who was previously featured on our site with his tune Rock the Beat.

Co-founder of the label Paul Louth steps up for the first release under new alias Agile Kind, providing two brilliantly deep & punchy cuts that are just drenched in groove. 

Title track ‘Pyramid’ is a blissful, bouncy roller, rich with acid textures, tight percussion and wonderfully worked progressions. The track grows through emotive peaks and troughs, forever pushing the dancefloor toward a joyful state of euphoria.

The second track from Louth comes in the form of ‘Mime’, a track with a similarly crisp sound, precise and incredibly chunky. ‘Mime’ breathes at a slower, sleazier pace and works through warm yet haunting pads, luscious synth stabs lined with reverb and a relentless c hugging bassline.

Rounding off the EP are two remixes of ‘Pyramid’. First up is Ki rk Degiorgio aka As One, a British legend in the electronic music scene, who drenches the track in his signature sound of Detroit influenced Techno. Degiorgio introduces beautifully layered strings and pads, which build around a hefty kick and an acid-tinged bassline. The end result is a dreamy peak time beast you can totally lose yourself to.

Finally, we have a devilishly ballsy techno stomper from Oliver Moon himself, laden with raw percussive textures, driven by a thumping 909 kick and accompanied by a ruthless 303 line.

"Digister EP" is the name of the first release of the Peruvian producer Frank Serin in Sismo Discos based in Buenos Aires. This EP was produced in the remote places of his travels in Latin America during 2019, influenced by breakbeat and acid Frank experiment with different styles to form your own perspective on electronic music. That is why by listening to this EP we can find different textures and rhythms that it has been experiencing.
