Felt, love/cold/warm/sick/excited/elated/light/heavy/gratitude/humble. 

Heard, voice/car/wind/rain/laughter/sigh/synthesiser/honesty/.

Thought of Joel's words, that silence is testimony, at odd moments throughout day. Walked with Paul and spoke about sound and belonging. Sat in Paul's car and watched colours in streets, throughout about people being shut inside their homes. Enjoyed lolly/Georgia's smiles. The warmth of a room while its cold outside. Thought of home, a lot. The space between there and me. How community fills all spaces.

Improv MESS/LA 1 [14072021]

Felt, energy lessening, but reflective. Annoyed, excited, deadpan happy.

Heard, almost every voice I heard spoke something of lockdown. Including my own voice, in my head. Oh. and "In my head", in my head.. as words, but not in words (irl)more like an electriccy guitar sound, but on an electronic xylophone. Was pretty cool. A noise that really stuck out was some birds, this morning (maybe, rosellas?),, I told someone I'd been trying to listen more to stuff and think less about myself, but realised I hadn't been doing it so much... so did, whilst on the phone with them. It seemed so loud once I let myself/wanted to hear it, but before that I hadn't really noticed. In that moment I felt kind of selfish. 

This one kind of sounds like aphex twin. I think, speaks to some nervousness/dread going into lockdown away from home. It is a little unnerving to listen to.

Improv MESS/LA 2 [15072021]

"She looks like him, a familiarity, he could see himself in her. She was less foreign to him. I’m not really sure how it works. But I know before you born, your father was good to her. But that changed when you came along, she became less visible to him. I look like my father, the spitting image. People say it as a compliment. I used to take it as one. But through years of carrying the weight of his neglect, the pride I used to feel has turned to sickness. When I look at myself I try to remember him less".

batemans bay forever is set in batemans bay, which marks the end and start of the budawang songline. the song integrates local Indigenous and non-indigenous artists works, often singing about and spiralling back into country through their words and intentions. Young rapper doss singing bout the death of his nan. hydro grappling with becoming a role model to his young son after lifetimes of adversity,  and phil free singing about his connection to the river. And so much more.

bringing all these stories together into one song creates a dialogic context of the bay. it evokes emotion whilst allowing u to hear multiple experiences of living here through the artists own words. all of the samples exist as they are, not slowed down, sped up or twisted beyond recognition. this type of sampling pushes us to change to integrate our community, rather than changing the community to suit ourself. this allows the truth of the artists words to resonate through, taking the lead at different points and allowing the composition to follow, rather than lead. we are singing together.

RIP IV is a bpd opera from the collective subconscious of E Fishpool, Kalyani, and Sam Miers. Set across Batemans Bay, Carlton, Bookar and Box Hill, the show traverses big emotions through dance music, improvisation, sampling and live instrumentation. Are organ covers the ultimate DJ hype edit? 

Played between CDJs, ableton, guitars, usbs, a heavy (and light) keyboard and human singing, RIP IV is a constant live edit, with Emily, Sam n Kalyani rotating roles and responsibilities to hold the set and move it forward. 

The set is constantly collapsing in on itself - with each artist offering new narratives whilst the others are slowly being ripped apart, re-used and recontextualised. It is a type of experimentation where the artists are able to bring all of themselves whilst simultaneously being open to being challenged.. Not only through sound, but through a collective vulnerability and openness to creating something incommensurable (fully tweaked). 

Punters reported experiencing something similar to an acid trip and tears were shed while hugging boulders.
