I don’t believe in luck but I do feel very privileged to have two angels looking after me. My wife Jo and my daughter Charlotte have saved my life on three occasions keeping me alive until the ambulance arrived. I have been told that without their interventions I would not have survived.

Both have chosen not to believe in any God or indeed any outside power that can change our lives.  There may be many of you who disagree but these are the choices we make - each of us believes what we feel is best for us.  If a belief in a higher being helps give anyone’s life more meaning and guides them through each day, we have no argument with that at all.   

I think of Jo and Charlotte as my Atheist Angels.  The care they have given me during these close-to-death experiences shows what beautiful souls they are, always there for me at the time of greatest need.   

On every occasion, there were times when I truly thought that I was drawing my last breath, my existence disappearing as they fought to save me and all I could think of at the time was that, barring my brother Gal, all of my closest male antecedents died when they were just 63.  I was the same age during these episodes and I really didn’t want my name added to the sequence.  My Atheist Angels made sure that it wasn't.

Now I am 67, a proud grandfather, still around to enjoy the experience of watching my family thrive and grow.  There is another grandchild on the way later on this year and the more time I can spend with the love of my life Jo, the better and although my illness is not exactly how I planned things, I still try to enjoy every extra moment.

The continuation of ‘Cripple Club’ with Gal and Hans has been another unexpected bonus and we plan to keep going as long as we can. Here’s to the next song - I do hope you enjoy this one.   (Terry Reeves)

MY ATHEIST ANGELS - CRIPPLE CLUB

I have always wanted to make a rap metal track with Heartscore so I was super excited when he reached out with this banging hip-hop metal fusion production. The lyrics are inspired behind the Hawaiian legend of Nanaue the Shark Man. I have some Hawaiian blood in me, so I figured I would rock it, lol! I am super blessed to still be working on music with my friend Heartscore.

Each winter here in the UK, small birds enact one of natures great spectacles. Each evening flocks ranging from a few hundred to over 100,000 individual Starlings form up into a single flowing entity swirling above their communal roosting sites. 
Why they do this is not fully understood, with theories ranging from a strategy to distract predators, to a grand display designed to draw more birds to the flock for the purpose of maximising the body heat being generated by the mass of the flock in the roost. 
Whatever the purpose of this behaviour it creates a unique and magical aerial display of great beauty.

The track began with the repeating mallet sequence, then the strings and lastly the piano. I'm finding myself increasingly drawn to improvising around basic chord progressions at the moment and this is another product of this approach. I'm  resisting the temptation to quantize or mess around with the midi in post, so it's all as played and of the moment.

Murmuration

This song started as an idea David and I came up with to do an afrobeat song together.  So David came up with this banger of a bass line and drums track and sent it to me. I added some guitars, electric piano, and organ. I then excitedly sent it to Mikey to add the sax, which I consider to be a key element of afrobeat music, and which he always does so well. David's version is much more drum and bass heavy. Please have a listen to both so you can hear how they both sound. I really had a good time making this song. David produced and mixed both versions, and what a fun thing it is to hear my instruments integrated into an elrctronica song by such able hands.

About thirty years ago, I lived on a boulevard with incessant and very noisy road traffic. This artery was used dozens of times by emergency vehicles going to the emergency room near my home. And to top it off, the rooms of the apartment I rented were adjoining the delivery dock of a supermarket. Hell!
My next door neighbors were an elderly couple who had lived there forever. When I asked them if the noise didn't bother them, they both replied "Ah but not at all! We're used to it and we couldn't live without it, that reassures us!"
You will therefore have understood that this burlesque blues is for them who would certainly not have supported living in the countryside.

Il y a plus de trente ans, j'ai habité sur un boulevard au trafic routier incessant et très bruyant. Cette artère était empruntée des dizaines de fois par les véhicules de secours qui se rendaient aux urgences près de chez moi. Et pour combler le tout, les chambres de l'appartement que je louais étaient mitoyennes avec le quai de livraison d'un supermarché. L'enfer!
Mes voisins de palier étaient un couple de personnes âgées qui vivait là depuis toujours. Quand je leur est demandé si le bruit ne les dérangeait pas, ils m'ont répondu tous les deux "Ah mais pas du tout! On a l'habitude et on ne pourrait plus s'en passer, ça nous rassure!"
Vous aurez donc compris que ce blues burlesque est pour eux qui n'auraient certainement pas supporté de vivre à la campagne.
