This is the 7th song posted from the album I have been working on using demo tracks given to me by Wou-Wou & the Wormling during the start of the pandemic! I can't believe how fast time has passed and how long we have been working on this project. 4 songs from the album are based on a graphic novel that Wou-Wou had started before the pandemic began. The rest of the songs are reflections of the weird times we were living in.

Big thanks to Wou Wou, Bit-zone, and Stricknice for still being here after all these years. I have known and worked with people on SoundCloud probably longer than I have known high school friends, college friends, and friends from various jobs. Huge thanks to Guitar Wizards of the Future. I remember when I first began participating in the SoundCloud community, I would always eagerly anticipate a new GWOTF track, especially because I grew up in Oakland California. He came up with a really cool guitar instrumental and the vocals, which he is very passionately singing,  while travelling through the primordial forests of Central Europe and shared it with all of us. I added the bass and the electric piano. Tez (Llanpsych) added the really cool guitar parts that sound like orchestral violins. Ken (K2 and the Three, and K2 and the Four) added the perfectly complimentary rolling drums. Stephen (TexMex Shaman) added the awesome, trippy sitar and pulled the whole thing together as an expert producer and mixer. Tez also mastered it. Music for Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) who will be performing The Little Mermaid Ballet January 2024 in Colorado.
The Little Mermaid decides to go to the Sea Witch: she longs for a human soul so the prince will return her love.  After a long journey, she comes to a space of marshy ground, in the midst of this spot stands a house built with the bones of shipwrecked human beings.  “I know what you want,” says The Sea Witch, “it is very stupid of you, but you shall have your way, and it will bring you to sorrow, my pretty princess.”  “You want to get rid of your fish's tail and to have two legs like human beings on Earth so that the young Prince may fall in love with you and that you may have an immortal soul”.  “You must give me your lovely voice, I will have the best thing for the price of my potion”. “Put out your tongue,” says the Sea Witch, “so that I may cut it off as my payment, then you shall have your wish.”  Then The Sea Witch cuts off the Little Mermaid's tongue so that she becomes dumb and will never speak or sing again.  Paraphrased from "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen.
For piano, strings, flute, clarinet, English horn, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, tuba, virtual instruments, sound effects and percussion.

Having been born in the 1950s and then being a child and teenager of the potentially optimistic 1960s it has been monumentally depressing to see the outbreak of hostilities in Europe. The fall of the Berlin Wall and ensuing disintegration of the Soviet Union certainly gave rise to the now mistaken assumption that the Cold War really was coming to an end.  Perhaps we didn’t focus as closely as we should on the bigger picture... 

It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that to a large extent, the world would appear to be on something of a downward curve. The rich get richer, the poor and powerless are simply ground into the dust, merely collateral damage to an insatiable hunger for power.  I could write an extensive list of exactly where this is happening alongside those I believe to be responsible and do not for a moment doubt that you, dear reader, could do the same.  But why say what others have more eloquently said already?  Only a complete and utter fool would even try. 

Not so long ago, I was playing a few of my favourite Beatles’ tunes and as these things have a habit of doing, a melody somehow manifested itself out of nowhere.  Before long, I found myself singing the words "Not Back in the USSR", which seemed to fit rather nicely.  Until that point, I'd had no intention of writing a song about the war in Ukraine at all.  Nonetheless, that is precisely what I did. 

Of course, I blame Hans & Gal for taking my inoffensive little protest song and turning it into the Heavy Rock anthem presented to you here. Honest guv’nor, it's nothing to do with me.
