Jeanne d'Arc (1412 - 30 mai 1431) est considérée comme une héroïne de la France pour son rôle dans le siège d'Orléans et le couronnement de Charles VII de France pendant la guerre de Cent Ans contre l'Angleterre. Joan of Arc ( 1412 – 30 May 1431) is considered a heroine of France for her role in the siege of Orléans and the coronation of Charles VII of France during the Hundred Years' War against England. After successfully leading several French military actions, she was captured, handed over to English authorities, convicted as a heretic, and burnt at the stake in 1431. Twenty-five years later, her conviction was formally overturned. Nearly 500 years after her death, she was canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church.

Ever since my personal discovery of the writings and musings of Terence McKenna in the mid 90’s I have been both fascinated & amused by a hypothesis of his that some have referred to as: The Stoned Ape Theory.

The Stoned Ape Theory: Pseudoscience or Psychedelic Origin of Modern Man?

Did early humans accelerate evolution by tripping balls on psychedelic mushrooms? One psychonaut ethnobiologist says: absolutely.

Let’s set the scene: 100,000 years ago, in the age before recorded history, our early hominid ancestors started abandoning the forests and traveling across savannahs. As they foraged in new environments, they began evolving faster, cleverer brains that eventually tripled in size. How did they accomplish this? One theory suggests that they unknowingly added psilocybin to their diet and tripped their way to high-level consciousness. 

The Stoned Ape Theory is a hypothesis by one of America’s most influential psychonauts, Terence McKenna. With knowledge of ecology, conservation, and shamanism, McKenna united his interests in his study of psychedelics. McKenna earned his degrees from the University of California-Berkeley’s Tussman Experimental College, and his extensive writings served as some of the West’s first exposure to the psychedelics DMT and ayahuasca. 

Though he died in 2000, McKenna’s lifetime of advocating for the exploration of altered states of mind still influences modern psychonauts today. The Stoned Ape Theory is only one way in which he attempted to shift the world’s view of psychedelics.

This is the 6th song posted from the album I started using demo tracks given to me by Wou-Wou & the Wormling during the start of the pandemic! This song was inspired by the mass shootings that plague the United States and the lack of progress this society and government makes toward increasing the safety and well being of all. I was recently surprised by an article in support of the “good guy with a gun” solution in a mainstream liberal news article. It’s basically the wild wild west out here still, lol.

My brother Gary and I were at our Nan's bedside at the hospice when the medication kicked in and there was no more communication . I had never faced death before - it was my worst moment. This song is about that moment. When I first played it to my elder brother Brian he said it was the best song he had ever heard. That was good enough for me.
We lost Brian in 2012 at the young age of 63 and his family asked permission to play it at his funeral which, of course, was my privilege. I wish there could have been many more unguarded moments with my Bri.  (Terry Reeves)
