VALUABLE MEMORIES OF FRIENDSHIP

This is the 3rd song Bitzone, Frawstakwa, and I have worked on together for my CKP page. I wanted this latest track to continue with the electronic hip hop vibe we had established with our previous two tracks.  Bitzone dug into his rich production archive and found a beat 10 years deep that met the criteria. This time I sent the track first to Frawstakwa to switch things up, since the last two songs I had started off. Frawstakwa came up with these deep metaphysical verse and chorus lyrics and I added a literal interpretation with my verse that I hoped would complement his meaning while keeping in theme with the previous two tracks. Bitzone then worked his magic and transformed the track into an electronic hip hop rock fusion. And then for a final surprise, he asked Joerxworx to join in with some futuristic EWI. In the end, I like that this track is different from It Ain’t Looking Good and Trendsetting and I think it points at a possible new direction for the next track we all work on together.

I was sitting there one day pondering on the thought, “Now I’ve lost my King, what do I do now?”  Out of the darkness, two understanding super-heroes appeared and helped me to survive. 

We have shared some sadness over the years but also our love for family life, producing songs and music that have an importance to us all. The most special thing is a friendship that has grown without condition and even though there is a distance of over 500 miles between us, there is the closeness of thinking with a single mind.

The garage doors are open to our private rockers club, with our band enjoying the camaraderie born out of music.

For the vocal I mainly started out with what in Logic is called "Warm Vocal" and and also the "Telephone Vocal". There are four vocal tracks in the chorus. The vocal effect at the end is achieved using Stereo Delay with different timing on the left and right channels. 

I spent some time working on  compression in Logic Pro X before mastering in Izotope Ozone. My objective was to get the compression "breathing" with the track. Happy to receive comments on this aspect.  

This started out as a Rhodes jam I called "G Bluesy" and just got longer and longer - I'm a little obsessed with the sound. I wanted to make a hopeful breakup song, giving the feeling of life moving on to a better place. I left many of the jammy elements in resulting in somewhat of a challenge when adding the other instruments as every here and there it goes off meter. For those of you that have heard my previous tracks there is nothing new and innovative here - its just me having fun with my favorite sounds.

As opposed to many other songs this one is in fact mostly autobiographical. When I got divorced back in the 1900s I ended up leaving the joint apartment in 15 min with a suitcase and my Roland Digital Piano (it still works 30 years later). I didn't have anywhere to go and moved from place to place for six months. It actually caused me some problems finding a new job as not having a permanent address didn't inspire a lot of confidence with the potential employers. One of those nights, when in my single bedroom apartment above a bakery, I was watching a VHS (the video rental was 15 meters from the entrance to my building) with Vivienne Leigh, and decided I wanted to live a more comfortable life like in the movie. The result was changing jobs and moving to South America after which I never looked back. I'll let you figure which movie I was watching by yourselves.

Although we only do original works and commissions for the artist, we found it a good challenge and this is where we humbly present our version. Dance of the Deserted Spaces is composed using field recordings taken from four different locations across the globe after the Covid-19 outbreak resulted in mass public lockdowns. The sonic character of these places shifted dramatically once stripped of the dominance of human activity and previously hidden aural worlds built from nature, automated machinery, the reverberation of open space and the earth itself revealed themselves.
The piece takes these ‘background’ sounds and give them a stage of their own to dance, converse, expand and exist independent from their relationship to human presence. These normally unregistered noises evolve rhythmically and harmonically in an autonomous celebration
of sound itself.
The idea developed from my last night on duty at the museum I work for in Tasmania, Australia. With the museum suddenly closed indefinitely to the public I walked from gallery to gallery shutting down all but the most basic power and lighting systems and listened as the empty
building revealed a new sonic atmosphere of gentle creaks, air-conditioning and essential plant mechanics. There was a sense of spirit emitting from the vacant architecture and the ever working
but unchampioned infrastructure the allowed these places to be habitable.
The sounds of the museum were recorded that night and form the raw material for Dance of the Deserted Spaces along with field recordings sent to me from a deserted intersection in Brooklyn, the empty auditorium of an international school in Yokohama and the entrance to the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in Paris.
Ideas of dystopia, harmony, freedom, tension and evolution are explored as the global sounds come together in defiance of cultural classification, revelling in the peopleless space and time.
Life and energy beyond the reductive parameters of humanity and society are given a platform to create a celebratory noisescape of the omnipresent sounds the secretly surround us.
