I sampled John Mayer's introductory speech from this live performance from Kansas City (March 22nd, 2010)
I used his voice segment in my 'Assassin' Music Video to open the video.
I've always liked the love/betrayal motif of this song and thought it would enforce the imagery in the video. 

For those Mayer fans who have seen my video, you may notice the 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' (The Police) tease (at 6:12-) Mayer would often include the main riff from that song in his guitar solo at live shows in 2010. The Police track has similar themes to that of 'Assassin' and I've always loved that pairing when seeing/hearing the a live recording.

In August of 2009 John Mayer hosted a series of Internet radio shows for his fans and followers.
During these broadcasts Mayer played some of his favourite tracks from other artists (both old and new) and even debuted a few unreleased bonus/demo tracks of his own.
One track titled Bonus Track was a song that was meant (at one time) for his Battle Studies record.

The instrumental (featuring John on piano and acoustic guitar) includes dialogue snippets from blues legend Big Bill Broonzy.

Mayer edited excepts from a “very candid and fluorescent” Broonzy interview to support his own instrumentation.
The content of the original 1956 interview focuses on Broonzy’s thoughts and feelings about the Blues.
