Third time is a charm they say. But if the first 2 times were already so memorable, what more can you ask for?

Nebraska comes in with a bang for his third release on Heist after ‘Soften the Wireless’ EP in 2016 and ‘Metaphor to the floor’ in 2017. It’s hard to believe it has been 3 years since his last appearance on Heist, but with ‘Y’miss me baby?’, Nebraska takes back center stage with another release full of disco flavored electronics. Italian disco man-of-the-moment Giovanni Damico comes along for the ride and delivers a stunning 80’s flavored remix.

It’s not to say that Nebraska (Alistair Gibbs) has been sitting still since 2017. He’s launched his own label ‘Friends & Relations’ where he explores his cut-and-paste style even more with some seriously cool disco dubs and other sonic adventures. Furthermore, he made a guest appearance on Aaron Dae and JKriv’s Razor ‘n tape Reserve. Apart from his regular musical explorations, he has also published a book (Surprise party every week) where we get a glimpse of how Gibbs sees the world.

His view is one of humor and positivity and one of creating new meaning through rearranging context. This is certainly true for his music and this new EP on Heist. The title track ‘Y’miss me baby?’ oozes funk with a clever combination of samples from different contexts put together to create something altogether new, yet familiar. The track has a real 80’s disco vibe to it and the vocoder adds even more to the ‘Zapp & Roger’ flavor of things. It’s a laidback track that feels like it was recorded on a gloomy Sunday evening with no pressure on anything and just room for fun. 

The vibe takes a complete left-hand turn with ‘Dip and Flip’, a high energy house track that rattles, loops and bleeps into a full-on disco frenzy.

The b-side kicks off with Italian disco wizard Giovanni Damico remixing the title track. He’s had a great run recently with releases on Lumberjacks in Hell and more recently on Star Creature, where he’s found a home to explore his own view on modern day boogie. His ‘jam’ remix flips the track into a freeform arrangement where guitars, disco claps, delays and retro synth licks all work together for a great taste of Italian boogie.

The EP finishes off in true Nebraska style, with yet another curveball. ‘Xia long bao’ sounds like a lost Nick Holder track from the 90’s with its loopy island style Rhodes and lazy chanting. The choice of samples along with the catchy groove makes this a signature Nebraska track and a quality closer for this single.

We are super happy to have Nebraska back on Heist and with this amazing EP, you are certainly going to create smiles on your dancefloor of choice.

Inkswel is firing into 2020 with his debut release on Boogie Angst - The People EP.  Having previously released labels BBE, Rush Hour, Sonar Kollektiv and Yoruba Soul as one half of Planetself, quality is assured from the producer with two original tracks and high quality remixes.

Too Late featuring Atlanta rapper and broken beat master Daz-I-Kue collaborator Stan Smith, is built around an 80’s synth line and electro percussion throwing things back to the early days of hip hop and breakdancing. The remix comes courtesy of Sheffield’s thatmanmankz who builds a melodic bass throbber that keeps the hip hop sensibilities, but also draws on the bleep culture his city is famous for. Having previously worked with vocalists such as Georgia Ann Muldrow, Amp Fiddler and Steve Spacek, Inkswel delivers The People EP - a perfectly crafted lo-fi club rocker with San Fran luminary Dave Aju on vocals. With the original driven by hip hop loops, the remix by Razor n Tape’s Cody Currie swings things gently in the direction of a 4/4 floor with a luscious piano and strings version.

Sub label of Dutch electronic dons Kraak & Smaak, Boogie Angst  is also home to Moods, Secret Rendezvous, Vhyce and Saux as well as their own material.

Rekids offshoot Stranger in The Night welcomes renowned underground mainstay Fred P for an incredible release complete with his signature depth.

Fred P ended 2019 under his Black Jazz Consortium alias with an album full of the lush musicality and worldly deep house grooves he’s known best for. His own name is reserved for more driving, club focused sounds, however, and in the past, he’s released on Secretsundaze, Finale Sessions, Mule Musiq, his now defunct Soul People imprint, not to mention his more recently minted Perpetual Sound. Few can nail a groove as heavy and hypnotic as this Berlin-based New Yorker, and the four tracks here highlight that once more.

'Turn Up' is built on immovable kick drums that roll and roll beneath a dark nebula of synths and pads. There is the atmospheric feel of factory floor automation in the groove and it never lets up. The lush 'Alphabet City' is less heavy, with more bright and cosmic pads lighting up a track that is airy and filled with a subtle sense of funk. 'Construction' takes things late into the night once more, with an edgy lead that is unsettling and paranoid as it pans about over a rooted kick drum that will lock the floor into a state of hypnosis. 'For The Dome' closes this fantastically compelling release with jittery, percussive drums that are softened by celestial synth work. In harmony, they make for perfectly escapist listening.

This is irresistible dance floor dynamite for those who like it deep.
