Having made an impact on our team’s ears last year, Matthew Dexter broke into our top tracks of 2023 with his “Uplink” EP on Animals on Psychedelics. As the label and title suggests, there is an almost tangible link between the dancefloor and the cosmos, specifically on A1 tracks “Mercurial”. This is a theme that has featured in Dexter’s work with him updating this ethos on his recent premiere on our channel with his debut release on his own Subplanet imprint. As well as these top releases, the Swiss selector has also appeared on EYA Records, Better Sound, Spaziotempo, and Foundation.

Delivering a wide eyed mix for our InSession series, Matthew Dexter shows his width of sounds and the many influences that have helped shaped his output and performances. In his recent social post he terms his new studio jam as being “techno? trance? psy? something in between…” and his recording for us definitely that sweet, indescribable place amongst these heady genres. Clearly pigeon-holing sounds is not really something Matthew takes much notice of as his mix straddles all at once, but there is a definitive old-timey thread that runs deep within his sonic intentions. This was a time in the 90’s when these sounds were all converging one last time before they were picked apart by the music media ripe to be sold off and reproduced, you can feel the urgency and legitimacy of the music. Each of the tracks may have only been released the week before the recording was made but the intention of the track selection is assured.

&ME - In Your Eyes

Surely one of the biggest underground tracks of the summer in Ibiza and beyond, ‘Don't Forget To Go Home' by Emanuel Satie gets  some remix treatment. The first part includes the Original Dub Version by Emanuel himself, a re-edit from Rebirth’s boss Shield and a remix from Black Loops.

A former Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune on BBC Radio 1, and supported by names as diverse as  Sven Väth, Kolsch, Luciano, Dj Koze, Lee Burridge, Guy Gerber, Claptone, François Kevorkian, and even Tïesto….'Don't Forget To Go Home' is a future classic, mixing jazz with deep house ! 
The track is a collaboration with the internationally renowned drumming virtuoso, percussionist, composer Billy Cobham and Nicolosi Production. The Jazz fusion pioneer has dedicated his whole life to musical exploration and creative expression,  working with artists like Miles Davis, Horace Silver and George Benson. 
The label boss Shield loved the track so much and decided to give the track his personal touch. The edit features a new afro rhythm pattern played by Carlos Santana’s percussionist Idrissa Diop, psychedelic effects created with the EMS Synthi Aks and an additional rhodes part. The result is fantastic. Emanuel delivers an exceptional stripped out dubby version, a bass-rolling peak-time house number for the dancefloor, while Black Loops, the italian house duo based in Berlin, strip the musical theme back for a deeper version with a funky disco vibe.
