TAOS, NM—Taos natives and Native Rock recording artists Robby Romero and Robert Mirabal have combined their talents to release a new “alter-Native” single titled, “Iron Horse.” “Iron Horse” commemorates the Summer of the Red Willow, when Taos, New Mexico’s Kit Carson Park was renamed “Red Willow” in June 2014 by the Town of Taos.

“Iron Horse” is a unique reflection of the many genres of music that thrive in Northern New Mexico – from the traditional Native American flute and soul stirring vocals, to classic rock and Spanish guitar. The fast paced, almost spiritual anthem of the Native American people’s diversity and their potential as a force of nature when they are united is inspirational.

The Red Lake Singers are from the Red Lake Ojibwe Nation in northern Minnesota. The group’s style of singing belongs to the genre well known throughout Indian Country as “powwow music”. Their new raw recording “Old Times” was produced to capture and preserve old songs and an “old-style” of singing of the Ojibwe people at Red Lake, one of the most traditional Indian communities in the country.

The first song on the album is “Generations”. Keeping in theme with the title, the song opens with the solo a cappella voice of Delvin Cloud, who then passes his song onto the next generation, the P. Town Boyz, for them to carry on in honor of their tradition. The PTBZ are all related and range in age from 10 to 18. The album’s cover art was painted by renowned Ojibwe artist Joe Geshick.

Robby Romero is a musician, singer-songwriter, producer and director who rose to prominence with the global broadcast of his first music video campaign, “Is It Too Late” and designation as a United Nations Ambassador Of Youth For The Environment. Over the past two decades, Robby has used the international language of music and film to help shift the paradigm and bridge the gap between Indigenous Peoples, human rights, and the environment through his non-profit organization, Native Children’s Survival.
