This song is the shanty from which we take our name, Eagle Alley, a version of Pull Down Below.  The sea is never that far from Eagle Alley’s repertoire as Anne, Chris and Rob are all enthusiastic shanty singers.

This is our take on the traditional song Cutty Wren. Wikipedia says, "The origins and meaning of the song are disputed. It is thought by some to represent the human sacrifice of the Year King, or the symbolic substitute slaughter of the wren as "king of the birds" at the end of the year for similar purposes ... On the other hand, it is also attributed to the English peasants' revolt of 1381, and the wren is supposed to be the young king Richard II, who is killed and fed to the poor".  Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice.

Cutty Wren

This song was was collected in Wiltshire by Alfred Williams and published in Folk-Songs of the Upper Thames in 1923, which makes it pretty local for us. It's one of the all time great chorus songs and we love singing it.

While We Are Together

A song written by Rob Winder, it forms a sort of back story to the more well-known traditional song Scarborough Fair.

Here is the shanty Santy Anno. We never seem to get too far from Shanties in Eagle Alley. It's a shared love that dates back a long way for all of us.
