A gifted selector and just as skilled groove manipulator, she has been a constant in a world full of variables, quietly making it to the top of the game thanks to her impeccably crafted sets, both alone and alongside legends such as Ben Sims, DJ Nobu or Inigo Kennedy. Tirelessly pushing for new approaches to DJing and also production, Sandrien has been carving out a niche of her own, elegantly weaving the classic drive of 90s techno with an all-embracing, future-facing take on electronics, always eager to incorporate new tropes and ways to tell her musical story on the dance floor. Born and raised in Germany up to the age of 13 before being uprooted and moved to the UK, Stephanie Sykes credits her Midlands coming of age with having instilled a deep love of electronic music in her. As well as making life-long friends in her northern milieu, it also pushed her to experiment more, and with this her creative passion quickly set her up as one of the UK’s most alluring talents. Fast-forward to today and for over a decade, she’s jumped from venue to venue with a highly developed personal sound that captivates in its 4/4 mastery. This rumbling techno has landed her a residency at Berlin staple Tresor, and gigs at a standard-issue list of big name venues in all four hemispheres. in case that didn’t suffice, she’s also got a growing number of releases to her name on publishers like BPitch, VENT, ://about blank and Tommy Four Seven’s 47 imprint. It’s techno with a simple mission, making people move. But don’t take anyone’s word for it, it’s best felt personally, and on a monster soundsystem if you can find it. Bassiani Podcast 213 is straight up techno, phlegmatically cool and tenacious in its course, an hour of swinging kick-drums and rubbery beats matched and mixed to perfection. A healthy measure of emancipating rhythms, signature Sykes through and through.

A well-known alum of acclaimed record labels such as Hayes, Klockworks, Fuse, Blueprint, Soma et al., Lisbon-based DJ and producer Temudo clocks in with a mix showcasing the breadth of his vista and smooth mixing skillset. Up with a choice selection of unbending warehouse percussion, laser-guided dubs and further esoteric mind-expanders, Temudo reels off a magnetic field of hi-velocity grooves, brutalist analogue bursts and cutting-edge sound design. Swinging the pendulum between straight out heavyweight, 909-fuelled barrage fire and heavily processed electronics on a mission, here’s a mix for those in search of both thrilling floor jack and superior groove know-how. With co-signs from Freerotation, Room 4 Resistance (where she is now a resident) and numerous other Berlin parties, Gigsta's expansive record collection has set its sights on dancefloors across the continent. She is a DJ whose mixes evidently display a passion for digging and conjuring up imaginative themes. We caught up with Gigsta to discuss her ascent as a DJ, telling us about her formal radio years on RCV and Canal B, her ongoing research project on early press in electronic music and the wonderful central themes that run through her monthly Fictions show on Cashmere Radio. Incredibly researched and meticulously prepared, the 31 shows, often influenced by her love for literature, range on music inspired by colours, cult novels, quotes, and NASA launches to spoken word specials and Mancuso tributes. Her Truancy Volume comes as no exception to a theme, guiding us through a mix that starts at 140 and does the rare inverse of gradually slowing down to 100bpm, although she's quick to tell us that slower change in tempo doesn't necessarily mean a slower change in energy. From Scratcha DVA remixes of Wiley, to the stylistically versatile sounds of DJ Haram and Hitmakerchinx, to Nord rippling sounds of Johanna Knutsson's recent release on Oscillate, it's a mix that runs the gamut in selection, yet echoes her personality when it comes to music and digging.
