A respected name within the progressive house fraternity, Forerunners makes a welcome return to Meanwhile with his first full release in the shape of the "Ancient Methods" EP.

Operating out of his Arizona home, Brenden LaBonte has consistently found himself at the forefront of a distinctive underground house sound with his Forerunners soubriquet. An advocate of the quality over quantity' maxim and a sound that is full of maturity and quality, the US artist has seen his music allied to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Black Hole Recordings.

Now returning to GMJ and Matter's flagship imprint after a spell-binding interpretation of Mike Isai's "Home" in July 2021, Meanwhile's 21st release sees Forerunners open his "Ancient Methods" EP with the mesmerising title track. Full of melodic poise and rhythmic interplay, a driving beat and tight off-beat percussion heralds a dynamic opening before a mechanic bassline and syncopated groove create the foundation for delicate motifs to lilt their way across the 8-minute track with ease. Delay-infused effects and pitched synth add to the aural atmosphere at the breakdown as a sustained pad holds sway throughout to create a subtle tension and hypnotic vibe.

The complex rhythmic foundation that infuses the oxymoronic "Light in the Darkness" is a powerful forerunner for the deep melodic melange to follow. As running bassline and swirling effects build, a dizzying breakdown of looped arpeggio provides sonic intrigue and bright, uplifting zenith. Exploding into the third movement, an hypnotic melody sits against oppressive bass and rhythm to create a magical track.

Continuing the dark rhythmic narrative of its predecessors, "Valis" provides another sonic tapestry filled with texture and innovation. Beneath a ticking percussive groove and chest-thumping kick, an effects-laden and pitched oscillator bassline reveal themselves across the 6-minute offering as a mesmerising arp creates a powerful melodic presence in the mid-range. Science-fiction inspired effects that the Future Sound of London would be proud of, infuse the breakdown as the second half drops into the huge bass-heavy underpinning once more.

Redolent in modern and innovative production technique and a cutting-edge sound, Forerunners brings a scintillating new approach to "Ancient Methods".

After a first appearance on the remix duties of TRS075 , Argentinian producer MATIAS OCAÑO returns with this beaultiful AIR EP, including a remix by CARLA CIMINO.
First track "Connections" , is a well crafted progressive roller that presents hypnotic grooves into a rolling bass, with emotional and soothing atmospheric tones and melodic synth touches. The Brazilian producer Carla Cimino, returns to Transensations with a powerful remix of Connections, imprinting Carla's hypnotic and tougher sound signature, touched with percussive elements. Next track is "Emeralds" , a progressive roller with a atmosphere that emphasises the melodic and uplifting synths.
Closing the EP, "Air" is a Intro track that brings Matias flawless quality standard, presenting a magical trippy mixing Progressive and Ambient elements with maestry. A bright dawn beckons over the horizon with new musical hope touching familiar landmarks. Mango Alley contributes with a seventh edition of its timeless classic bringing joy through a collection of rising and seasoned artists. In time, a new beginning creates a snapshot of autumnal colour. Gentle mist rolls across canals that interweave through a vibrant city. An hourglass slowly sifts its grains of sand as a plethora of sights and sounds are generated in synchronicity over days that wait for night to fall. The bustling Leidseplein is filled with chatter by day, while dislocated melodic patterns drift across Rembrantplein as twilight turns to night. Nothing is off limit at the stylish and atmospheric ClubNL and the aural rush created by the Sugar Factory then leads east to tempting rhythms found across the Panama canal.

The release concludes with EANP returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of 'Midnight Train'. Having worked together for several years it wasn't until 2018 that Ezequiel Anile and Nicolas Petracca decided to coin the EANP alias for their collaborative efforts. The moniker has taken off and seen them earn consistent support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren along with releases on ICONYC Noir, Just Movement, Magnitude Recordings, Mirabilis Records and Movement Recordings. Now landing back on Dopamine the talented duo deliver a dark and driving take on 'Midnight Train'. The infectious energy which made the original so compelling translates quite well here, albeit in darker, more progressive minded context. Airy vocal fragments and waves of fiery percussion drift over a robust groove for what results in amazing hypnotic drive. A plucky lead theme highlights the main break while frayed sonics deliver moments of meditative bliss, perfectly setting up a storming finale. A massive interpretation from EANP which rounds out a superb remix edition for Nosh and SJ's 'Midnight Train/Dream Catcher'. Don't miss it.
