Grandassa models was founded in 1962. The inspiration was the 'Miss Natural Standard of Beauty' contest held yearly during Marcus Garvey day by Carlos A. Cook & 'The African Nationalist Pioneer Movement'. Natural beauty, Jazz, African Liberation, & politics were important themes of the Grandassa Models event. 'Grandassaland' was the name Cooks gave to the landmass once formed by Africa & Asia.
