Symphonie de L'Automobile is a composition entirely made up of the recorded sounds of a 1987 Toyota Cressida. These recordings have been rhythmically arranged and repitched into a track which is both danceable and thought provoking.

My sound piece acts as an interactive archive using voicemails from family members. Loved one's voices are overlapped with alternative background sounds including various telephone sounds. The immersive nature of this project allows me to create a physical record of my favorite people's voices. Distance has forced my relationships to become telepresent maintained through phone calls. I have gained greater appreciation of my family's tireless support and unconditional love through the creation of this project. Thank you to Momma, Daddy, Mannie, Pa, and Granann for making me.

Telepresent Family

In light of the debate surrounding the potential disturbances the EAR Forest could cause, I wanted to make a piece that served as both an acknowledgement of human disturbance, and a reminder to keep that disturbance minimal. The piece consists of warped human footsteps making their way through the space, with a message in morse code droning through each speaker, TREAD WITH CARE. I hope it inspires conversation about how the EAR Forest could impact the ecosystem it has been constructed in. I think a fair question to ask is: how useful or good natured could an art piece about mitigating disturbance be when the art piece itself is likely doing some of the disturbing?

Tread With Care

Untitled is composed using synths, field recordings, and tape loops which were arranged and then improvised over by a cellist. This piece is meant to stand as a wash of sound and does not have a clear time signature or tempo. By actively avoiding classical musical structures and formats, I experiment with asynchronous loops. I want the listener to be overwhelmed but comforted in the wash of sound.

As the day starts to get shorter and colder I struggle with homesickness. With this piece I want to create a comfortable space with soothing sounds that are intended to make the listener feel comfortable and safe. I used a variety of sounds such as a heart beat crackling fire and muffled voices in contrast to sounds of rain hitting a window and wind sounds. My goal is to emulate the feeling of being warm and cozy with people you love while it's cold outside.

I wanted to create a cinematic sonic immersion that contrasts the environment it is played in. Transporting you between a lush green forest to a busy bustling bodega, filled with sizzling bacon and eggs, the stereotypical bodega cat, fluorescent lights, and background noises of the chaotic city of New York. I hope this piece allows you to appreciate the drastically different environments that surround us, highlighting the beauty of nature and the serine, and reflecting on some of our most mundane daily interactions. Let yourself wander through the isles, be cautious of the cat, and don't get stuck in the backroom bathroom.
