The EP opens with its title track, finally released after circulating in sets by M.E.S.H. and object blue for years. Exemplifying recharged energy, the titular piece is a mechanised swagger of emboldened electronics that strut onto the scene under the repeating mantra of ‘trying something new’ – a statement optimistically encouraging the listener to join in the artist’s efforts to break mental barriers surrounding the self.

For our seventeenth addition We are graced with the presence of London's own aircode, whose electronic obscurities have been found on such labels as DJ Pitch's 'Tobago Tracks' along with a recent EP on 'Alien Jams'. Julia's productions are truly worthy of being heralded by a label with the word 'alien' in the title - her work is enigmatic and astoundingly unique. It beckons notions of a faraway entity who occupied her mind and attempted to craft their world's music through her eyes using earthly soundscapes.

It is pensive and moving throughout, where aircode has used the absence of space and an unlikely palette of reverb-drenched, distant sounds to accentuate a sense of alienation. Nods to dubstep and UK-influenced genres leak through at times to reinforce the still-present movability and flow that Julia effortlessly melds into the sound design she has mastered. The tracks loop in and out of themselves, where she has broken down each track skilfully into a concise selection of resonances that undergo a perpetual sense of motion that subvert the tropes of contemporary club music. There is an uneasy air of endlessness and repetition throughout; a spiral further and further into an unknown unknown.

Splash Pattern - Furnace

For the next release on Early Reflex we welcome Frankfurt-based producer and composer Lorica (formerly known as Avbvrn), following his debut EP on Display and a split on Destitute.

Lorica filters a surgical attention to detail and sound design through a wide-scope approach to atmosphere and the spatial qualities of music. The resulting work conjures up dramatic, vivid, and tactile sonic landscapes that recall classical forms and techniques, while drawing upon contemporary textures and approaches to rhythm and memory.
Inspired by renaissance arts and their creative process ‘Adaptive Radiation’ [EYX005] stretches further Lorica’s experimental and oblique musical approach to the club-focused context of Early Reflex. The result is a 5-track EP blending cinematic sound design with traces of dubstep, drill, dancehall, trap, and more which is going to hit the listeners both physically and emotionally!

The opener ‘Baikal Rediscovered’ is a great example of Lorica’s production style where the composer blends together orchestral and atmospheric pads with incessant grimey beats and a deep bass-line making it a suitable tool for the club.
A storm of otherworldly sounds in contrast with its trapp inspired rhythmic session protrude in ‘Ochre Skeleton’ originating a surrealistic and peculiar atmosphere.
Approaching the end of the first half of the EP there is ‘Petrified Butterfly’, a dreamy and spooky interlude where synthesised flute melodies, fast-paced percussions and effected field recordings repeat and alternate themselves continuously while evolving every time differently in a never-ending loop until every sound dissolves in empty reverberated spaces.
Entering the second half of the release, listeners get hit by the drilling kick drum and the twisting sound design of ‘Sodiumglanz’, which lead to the closure of the EP.
In ‘Breccia’ Lorica explores further his blend of cinematic effects with the pronounced attitude for the club, delivering a track characterised by pitch-shifting electronic percussions and the harmonic progression of orchestrated instruments and strings.

‘Adaptive Radiation’ is available across all platforms starting from Friday 5th of November.

After rare apparitions on compilations, sound designer Victor Morello aka @zerocrossingpoint brings to light his very first full length release. "Iteration of the Self" gathers 8 tracks created on a 4 years interval and based on countless reworks and adjustments, mirroring a dense period of self transformation for the producer. Inspired by Ambient, Musique Concrete, Film Score, Club and Metal, Zero Crossing Point delivers a stunning piece of hybrid electronics, sometimes extreme, sometimes uplifting and cinematic.

Use and abuse of home made synthesised sounds and personal field recordings create an uncommon universe in which reverb, granular synthesis, distortion and resonators pave the way for an astonishing sense of narration. Drawing inspiration from nature observations, bizarre movies, books and video games, the Grenoble-based producer built a wonderful piece transcribing strong unsayable emotions and exploring the concept of iteration.

Multiple listenings are highly recommended!

Georgia-born C Powers is the second artist to join the fledgling Contagion Discs imprint. 'Which Ad Experience Do You Prefer?' is their first release of 2021 and collects four compound tracks that scratch and bump through breaks, house and garage. C Powers has been making tracks and DJing in the South and around the world for well over a decade, while recent releases have come via labels like Sorry Records and Sweat Equity.

Now based in Portland, C Powers has both refined and expanded their vision of a groove-based, in-your-face electronics over the years. 'Which Ad Experience' consolidates that vision, utilizing a sequence of hard breaks, shuffling 2-step and tight, playful basslines across its four tracks. Dub and psychedelia flit throughout the title track and “FishWash”, while “Tinea” and “Lost Extract” channel martial rhythm into seductive dancefloor anthems.

C Powers uses they/them pronouns. 'Which Ad Experience Do You Prefer?' is out on January 29 via Contagion Discs.
