Rise Of A Future Generator

Jade Foster is a Melbourne based artist writing and performing music as waterhouse. 

Foster uses digital programs & electronic plug-ins in combination with vocal and orchestral samples recorded through her iMac speakers to experiment in choral ambience. 

With no prior formal training, Foster creates soundtracks to her own life using feeling rather than thought; meditating on string instruments and choral arrangements as replicas of raw human-like sounds & expressions.

Her soundtrack for Ears Have Ears ‘waterhouse at the little girls orchestra’ is an exploration into the dialogue between human voice and instrumentation. Featuring samples exclusively from a thirty minute recording taken on her iPhone of a midyear recital at a local private school, Foster transforms the sometimes out of time and off tune performances of young girls into complex grandiose expressions.

This composition was written and recorded during the lock down in April 2020. To amplify the isolation we have all been experiencing, I asked the musicians to record their parts without listening or seeing the parts of the other members of the group. I was not in contact with the musicians during the recording period, as I was interested in (mis)communication and (mis)interpretation. During the postproduction and mixing, I tried to preserve the feeling of seclusion. The isolation therefore became the ninth member of the ensemble.
