Downplay is proud to welcome Bristol-based producer Daffy to the label with his brand new release, ‘Barrel’.

‘Bruised’ kicks off proceedings with a big-time bass-heavy dancefloor filler, packed full of chopped and skewed R&B elements backed with a thundering 2-step groove. Pure energy!

‘Barrel’ amplifies that energy even further, flexing hard on a tasty 4x4 workout complete with Flat Beat-style bassline to make the crowd catch a sweat.

‘Roundabout’ closes off the EP with a percussive UKG heater, merging mutated vocal samples with a cavernous sub-bass and heavy drums for a proper little soundsystem test.

Downplay is proud to welcome South West production duo Earthnut to the label with their brand new release, ‘Protosynthesis’.

‘Hollow Man’ rolls out on sprightly keys and chopped beats before unfolding into a pitch perfect UKG shuffler that manages to pack oscillating chords, sugar sweet female vocals, punchy bass and a cheeky sample that will raise a wry smile, all into one sublime track.

‘Knucklethump’ provides an even smoother mood to it’s predecessor with a jazzed-out top-line and bumpy percussion that is precision-tooled to get waists winding, before expanding even further in it’s final third with some seriously spicy creative touches to keep the dancefloor jumping.

‘Gunker’ is likely to be the track that really open some ears though, with it’s left-field assimilation of the UKG template into something utterly new but captivating. Reminiscent of the Compost-era broken beat sound, but manipulated into something closer to a subtle dub techno vibe, it defies labeling but is indicative of creative minds reaching their full potential as artists.
