The Páramo mountain environment is a rather quiet place. Still, when you really listen closely, there are many interesting detailed sounds to be heard.

Páramo is a very important alpine tundra ecosystem, located only in the Andes mountains range between the treeline and glaciers (average altitude 3500 - 4000m). It is one of the rarest ecosystems on Earth. Colombia is one of only three countries in the world to be home to paramo and more than 60% of these moorlands are found here. The vegetation is composed mainly of giant rosette plants, shrubs and grasses. The most famous and important plant is the Frailejon. The Páramos are capturing water from low-hanging clouds and releasing it back into the soil, ensuring Colombian cities have a continuous water supply.

This was the night ambience being kilometers away, over the mountains from the nearest rural settlement.

Cueva de Los Guácharos is a 90 km2 protected area of dense preserved forests and thick vegetation. It's the last mountain before the Amazon basin. The highest peak reaches 2621m. Only a tiny bit of a park can be accessed by trails but the majority is entirely inaccessible. There are areas and surely caves that are undiscovered. The 90 km2 size does not seem so much but thick vegetation with steep slopes, avalanches makes this place very difficult to access.

There's less wildlife activity in cloud forests than in the rainforests but the sounds you might come across can be pretty unique.

Located on the top of a hill above the river so you can hear some distant pink noise. It was 6:00 morning time after spending the night camping deep inside the cloud forest of Cueva de Los Guacharos national park.

Calm Adriatic Sea - Nevaton MC 59 Cardioid/Omni Comparison

A rare audio library collection of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a variety of 60 audio tracks, each one spanning from 2 up to 9 minutes of natural soundscapes. These recordings offer a high-quality immersive sonic experience of the islands’ wild habitats and rich biodiversity. Capturing these habitats presented unique challenges such as restricted movements in the jungle, permits and the protected areas of isolated tribes.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands totally consist of 571 islands, of which 37 are inhabited. They were only populated by the mainland Indians in the mid-20th century. Before that, the islands were completely untouched and there were only 7 different groups of tribes living in the jungles and all of them were very unwelcoming to any incoming strangers from the outside world.

Including various undisturbed ecosystems:

Tropical Rainforests: Diverse and rich tropical ambiences and endemic birdsongs set into an organized set of audio tracks. Captured in many different locations on different islands during dawn, morning, daytime, afternoon, dusk, and night.

Ocean: From powerful ocean to soft waves hitting the rocks or mangroves, the variety of sea sounds differs significantly from one another.
 Mangroves: Sounds of mangrove mud popping to diverse and unique birds. The navigation and recording here were pretty intense as many crocodiles inhabit these areas with a long history and the presence of regular attacks on humans.

Monsoon rain: As the monsoon arrives the rain is a daily event but as soon as it comes it also goes away, the sun comes back and with that jungle to life. After many weeks of moving soaked through the jungle and placing the microphones, many successful recordings were captured. The rain recordings consist of light to medium and hard rain.

Three biogeographical realms, the Indo-Malayan, Palaearctic, and Sino-Japanese, converge in the greater Himalayas region forming the world’s most expansive and untamed high-altitude regions. These are the largest areas covered by glaciers and permafrost outside the Polar Regions, accounting for a large proportion of freshwater distributed in ten of Asia’s biggest rivers, thereby sustaining the lives of over 1.3 Billion people. The extreme altitudinal gradients ranging from the tropical lowlands of less than 300m to the high mountains of 8,000m, and complicated terrain have brought about different vegetation patterns.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of lush tropical islands located in a very remote part of the Indo-Pacific region. The archipelago consists of a total of 571 islands, out of which just 37 are inhabited mostly by the mainland Indians who came here in the mid-20th century. Utria National Park is a 54,300-hectare (210-square-mile) protected area located in the northwest of the wild Pacific coast.The Colombian Pacific  (Chocó) region, is one of the few remaining vast regions with no road infrastructure and large untouched jungle stretches. Snow Ambiences Vol.1

Wicked Owls - Midnight Primeval Beech Forest, Slovenia October 4. 2025

Late autumn at the Adishi glacier.

Capturing the clean and quality sound of the glacier presents its unique challenges to overcome. One is the logistics and fitness of even reaching such a place, as they are mostly in high, remote mountains. Another is reaching the suitable area of the glacier, which is huge and presents a very demanding terrain that takes you time and energy to get to. Most easy access is at the front of it, the tounge where the ice ends, yet that is where the water comes running out of under the glacier. So in order to avoid the noise of the rushing water, I needed to reach a more upper stage of it, by following it along the edge. That presents another difficulty as the edges of a mountain are "eaten" by the glacier therefor they are completely crumbling and unstable with a high chance of collapse. You can hear stones falling down continuously. When finally reaching this narrow edge, I managed to come closer to the heart of this ice monster. This is where I was able to capture the ice avalanches and rock falls from much closer and farther away from the noise of the river. You can feel the vibrations and low rumble frequencies. Standing so close to it and witnessing its process is very different from anything else; it somehow feels like something extraterrestrial, something we are never used to witnessing in our lives. Yet it is a whole complex system by itself, existing there, doing its thing, basically just water.
